Rajasthan Royals (RR) beat Mumbai Indians (MI) comprehensively by nine wickets in the 38th IPL 2024 match on Monday (April 22) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. RR solidified their top position in the points table with their seventh win in eight games, while MI remained in the seventh spot.
After opting to bat first, MI scored 179/9 in 20 overs. Youngsters Tilak Varma (65) and Nehal Wadhera (49) were the top performers for Mumbai Indians with the bat. However, the seniors in the line-up failed to deliver the goods. Sandeep Sharma stole the show for RR with a five-wicket haul.
In reply, Yashasvi Jaiswal (104*) hit a blistering century to guide Rajasthan Royals towards the target in 18.4 overs. Sanju Samson (38*) and Jos Buttler (35) lent decent support to Jaiswal in the top order. All the MI bowlers looked off-color against the Royals batters in the chase.

At the post-match presentation, MI skipper Hardik Pandya reflected on the reasons behind their dismal loss and said:
"I think we put ourselves in trouble early on but the way Tilak and Nehal batted was fantastic. I didn't think the way we lost those early wickets we'd reach 180. But at the same time we didn't finish well and I think we were 10 or 15 short.
"We had to keep it within the stumps. Early on in the powerplay we gave a lot of width and I don't think it was our best day on the field as well."
Pandya continued:
"Overall we didn't put the right foot on the path and they outplayed us. Everyone is professional, they know their roles. What we can do is learn from this game and the mistakes we've made and rectify it before the next game. Progression is important.
"I don't believe much in chopping and changing. I like to back my players. The focus will be on playing good cricket, sticking to the plans and the basic errors we're making, we don't usually make them."
