League leaders Gujarat Titans (GT) executed a clinical chase to eliminate the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) from the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) at the Chinnaswamy Stadium on Sunday, May 21.

The contest was interrupted by rain at the beginning, leading to a slight delay. GT skipper Hardik Pandya won the toss and elected to bowl first. RCB were once again unscathed and dominant in the powerplay, but lost their way in the middle overs.

Virat Kohli stepped up when it mattered to record his second consecutive hundred while cameos around him propelled RCB to 197-5 in the first innings.

Mohammed Siraj struck with the new ball to dismiss Wriddhiman Saha in the powerplay. Shubman Gill was at his best, pacing his innings well while Vijay Shankar took his time to settle at the crease. The pair shared a 123-run partnership for the second wicket.

Shubman Gill ramped up the tempo and despite wickets falling at the other end, maintained his composure to wrap up the run chase with five balls to spare.

The defeat marks the end of the campaign for RCB, who have failed to qualify for the playoffs for the first time since 2019.
