The Punjab Kings (PBKS) had a mammoth task on their hands after coming into the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega-auction with the biggest purse. The franchise retained only two players, that too uncapped, to boast INR 110.5 crore for new head coach Ricky Ponting to build a side from scratch.

PBKS kickstarted the auction by exercising their Right to Match (RTM) option to re-secure the services of left-arm seamer Arshdeep Singh for INR 18 crore. SRH had originally won the bidding race against RR, but PBKS were ready to match their counterbid to keep a hold of the local player.

The 2014 finalists then broke the bank to rope in Shreyas Iyer for an astronomical sum of INR 26.75 crores. They secured a massive win in the bidding war over the Delhi Capitals (DC) to secure another coup in the first marquee set itself.

They continued to flex their purse in the early stages of the auction to come out on the right side of et another bidding war. This time, they secured the services of leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal for INR 18 crore.

After being outdone by the opposition's RTM moves, PBKS finally made a breakthrough by acquiring all-rounder Marcus Stoinis for INR 11 crore. The Australian marked their first overseas player in the squad. They soon followed it up by roping in his compatriot Glenn Maxwell for the third time in franchise history, this time for a sum of INR 4.2 crore.

PBKS strengthened their middle order further by bagging the local player Nehal Wadhera for a sum of INR 4.2 crore. They were able to rope in one more of their former players as they made the winning bid of INR 1.50 crore for left-arm spinner Harpreet Brar.

They added some death-over specialists to their squad to shape up their bowling department. The duo of Vijaykumar Vyshak and Yash Thakur were bagged at the final stages of the auction for a combined sum of INR 3.4 crore.

PBKS secured the key all-rounder signing of Marco Jansen for INR 7 crore, and continued to be heavily involved in overseas signings. Ponting's influence was on show as after roping in Stoinis and Maxwell on Day 1, the team roped in another batch of Australian players in the form of Josh Inglis, Aaron Hardie, and Xavier Bartlett.
