Days after Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) won IPL 2025, its parent company is considering selling the franchise, according to a report by Bloomberg. RCB beat Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the final by six runs on Tuesday, June 3.
Diageo plc, the parent company of the franchise, is looking at various options moving forward. Among the possibilities being weighed is the sale of part of the club, or the entire club iself. Daigeo, a British distiller, owns the franchise through United Spirits Ltd, which is its Indian unit. According to the report, the company could seek a valuation for the franchise as high as $2 billion.
However, there is no confirmation of anything just yet. The report added that a Diageo spokesperson refused to comment on the same. A representative for United Spirits has declined to comment as well.
The reports of RCB's parent company looking to sell the franchise come at a time where the Indian Health Ministry has been trying ban the promotion of tobacco and alcohol brands in the IPL.
RCB lift maiden IPL title with historic win over PBKS in the final
Beating PBKS in the IPL 2025 final, RCB lifted the trophy for the first time in their history, putting an end to an 18-year-long wait for glory. It was an impressive performance from the Bengaluru-based franchise throughout the season. In the league stage, they were consistent, winning nine of their 14 matches and finishing second with 19 points.
As a result, they played the first qualifier, where they trashed PBKS, who had topped the table, by eight wickets in a one-sided match to enter the finals. Previously, the team had appeared in three IPL finals (2009, 2011, and 2016). However, they had failed to cross the finish line on each of those occasions as the trophy eluded them.
This time around, they finally broke the jinx and came out victorious in what was a thrilling final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
