Trent Boult ended his dry run in the powerplay with a prized scalp

Mumbai Indians (MI) opening batter Rohit Sharma was dismissed by Rajasthan Royals (RR) pacer Trent Boult for the second time in the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) season. He departed for just six runs off five deliveries in the ongoing clash at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Monday, April 22.

Rohit was dismissed for a golden duck by the Kiwi left-arm seamer during the reverse fixture at the Wankhede Stadium. This time around, the right-handed batter had got off to a reasonably good start, following a first ball flick and an edgy second ball boundary.

However, after a couple of dot balls, Rohit Sharma chose to go for a wild expansive shot by clearing his front leg. The connection was not at all how he had hoped for, with the ball going straight up in the air. It took ages for the ball to make its way down, but by that time, Sanju Samson had made his call clear and claimed the catch comfortably to register RR's first breakthrough.

Have a look at the dismissal right here:

Shortly after Rohit's departure, fellow opening batter Ishan Kishan followed suit after nicking one ball off Sandeep Sharma in the next over. The umpire had initially adjudged not out, but RR managed to reverse the decision after a successful review.

MI have also lost Suryakumar Yadav midway through the powerplay and are tottering at 20/3.

Trent Boult has dismissed Rohit Sharma a total of three times in the IPL

Including the most recent dismissal in the ongoing match, Rohit Sharma has lost his wicket to Trent Boult a total of three times. The pair, who once shared the dressing room for the Mumbai Indians (MI), have had memorable face-offs in the past across formats. Boult got the better of the former Mumbai skipper for the first time in the IPL during the 2018 edition.

Boult has latched on to Rohit's well-documented woes against left-arm pacers over the years. However, it was the opening batter who famously took on the bowler during the 2023 ODI World Cup semi-final at the Wankhede Stadium to give India a resounding start.
