Mumbai Indians (MI) speedster Jasprit Bumrah has replicated his red-hot form for India in IPL 2024. He is the current Purple Cap holder with 10 wickets from five matches at an economy rate of just 5.95.
The 30-year-old will be one of MI's big hopes as they take on arch-rivals Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday, April 14. While Mumbai's bowling has shown areas of weakness, most of the cracks have been papered over with Bumrah's brilliance.
Jasprit Bumrah, however, has a rather ordinary record against CSK in the IPL. In 14 matches against the Men in Yellow, Bumrah has picked up 12 wickets at an average of 34.58 and an economy rate of 7.73. Fresh off a five-wicket haul in his previous game, Bumrah will be determined to set the record straight against MI's arch-rivals.
Jasprit Bumrah's best performance against CSK
Jasprit Bumrah's best figures against CSK are 2/10, which he registered during the league phase of IPL 2019. However, his best performance was arguably during the final of that same season, in which he proved why he has always been a big match player for Mumbai.
MI won a thrilling final against CSK on the last ball with that iconic slower yorker from Lasith Malinga trapping Shardul Thakur in front when the Men in Yellow needed two runs from the final ball. But it was Bumrah who won the Player of the Match for his brilliant spell of 2/14.
The wickets he took were those of Ambati Rayudu and Dwayne Bravo; both came at crucial junctures in the chase when it looked like CSK would get their noses in front. Bumrah's sensational performance helped MI defend 149 and win their fourth IPL title, going past CSK's three triumphs.
