PBKS vs RR, IPL 2023: Toss result and playing 11s for today's match, umpires list and pitch report

Punjab Kings (PBKS) will take on Rajasthan Royals (RR) in match number 66 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala on Friday, May 19.

Both teams need a win to stay in contention for a place in the playoffs, although a win is unlikely to confirm a berth for either.

Out of the two sides, RR are better-placed. Although both Rajasthan and Punjab have 12 points from 13 games, Sanju Samson and Co. have a much superior run rate of +0.140. Should the last place for the playoffs come down to a net run rate battle, Rajasthan will be in the hunt. Punjab, with a poor run rate of -0.308, will need something almost miraculous to finish in the top four.

Both RR and PBKS will go into Friday’s contest having tasted defeat in their previous match. Rajasthan were bundled out for 59 in 10.3 overs by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). On the other hand, Punjab went down to Delhi Capitals (DC) by 15 runs in a high-scoring encounter.

Rajasthan Royals have won the toss and opted to bowl first. Skipper Sanju Samson said:

“Looking at the dimensions and looking as to what we require in the tournament, it is better to bowl."

For Rajasthan, Ravichandran Ashwin missed out due to a back spasm. Riyan Parag and Adam Zampa are part of the playing XI. Punjab are going in with the same team.

The same surface is the same one that was used against DC. According to Murali Kartik and Matthew Hayden, there isn't so much of that green. It's not going to have as much movement off the seam inside the powerplay. Might not help the spinners much either. Good batting track.
