The 13th edition of the Indian Premier League is about nine months away but the franchises have already begun preparations for the same. In July, Mumbai Indians, champions of IPL 2019, traded Mayank Markande for Sherfane Rutherford with Delhi Capitals, while Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders appointed Trevor Bayliss and Brendon McCullum as their head coaches. Meanwhile, Royal Challengers Bangalore, who are yet to win an IPL, have made a couple of staff changes of their own. Gary Kirsten, India's former World Cup-winning coach, has been sacked after one season. KKR's ex-coach Simon Katich has replaced Kirsten as the new head coach now. Mike Hesson, who was in the race to become Indian coach, is appointed as Director of Cricket Operations. Ashish Nehra who was associated with RCB as bowling coach is also shown the door. The chairman of RCB Sanjeev Churiwala said, "RCB's purpose is to be the most trusted, respected and best performing T20 Franchise and hence our constant endeavour is to create a culture of excellence and high performance for every member of the team. To deliver this ambition we are very happy to announce the appointment of Mike Hesson and Simon Katich. We believe that Mike's extensive experience in building strong teams along with Simon's powerful cricket experience will help us create a winning culture." He further added,"As a result of this restructuring exercise, we will be moving to a single coach model. Consequently, we would like to thank Gary Kirsten and Ashish Nehra for their contribution over the past two seasons. They leave us with a legacy of having given several young players the confidence to show their ability on the highest stage. Everyone at Royal Challengers Bangalore wishes them all the best in the future."It should be noted that RCB had not qualified for the playoffs since 2017 with two wooden spoons in the last two seasons. The coaching staff, along with the captain Kohli, have been under the scanner because of regular failures.RCB fans will hope for a turnaround in the next IPL edition with Katich and Hesson part their staff.
