Horizon Forbidden West's post-apocalyptic world will be expanded with the upcoming Burning Shores Expansion. This is due to the Horizon franchise's ability to weave a fascinating science-fiction tale via breathtaking landscapes and machine designs that set it apart from other properties. From the unique perspective that modern people have, learning what occurred to the Old Ones is intriguing.

As a result, DLCs in the Horizon franchise have always been an excellent way to expand on the lore created in both Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West.

What is Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores about?

The Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores DLC will transport Aloy to the overgrown remains of Los Angeles, where she will be on the quest for a new monster machine. The expansion will take place in and around Hollywood, which has been converted into a volcanic archipelago as a result of humanity's demise. This new location will bring Aloy a new tale, new characters, and new threats.

LA is located south of the Tenakth Clan Lands, the main setting of Horizon Forbidden West, according to the official blog article. Aloy appears to be in the city to confront a "giant machine" that is endangering her farm. Additional elements concerning the scenario, such as where she received the information and who she'll meet, have yet to be revealed.

Burning Shores, like the first game's Frozen Wilds DLC, is more likely to be a standalone plot to prevent alienating gamers or stomping on the toes of the basic game's Nemesis cliffhanger. Yet, the Horizon Forbidden West Expansion, by bringing formidable new hunting machines, might be a fascinating new chapter in Aloy's journey.

Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores announcement trailer

The announcement trailer for the Burning Shores Expansion was released in December 2022 and briefly showed Aloy on the back of a Sunwing. In it, she was wearing what seems to be Quen tribe armor rather than the normal Nora Anointed armor.

What platforms will the Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores DLC release on?

While Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores is just around the corner, Guerilla has made the expansion a PS5-only release. The reason for this is that the developers modified the cloud system to make the game's open-world cloudscape look more realistic, but only to the extent that the PS5 can manage.

Andrew Schneider, the principal FX artist, confirmed the same when he revealed that "The cloud systems that we developed for Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West were fast because they didn’t store clouds as 3D objects, but rather instructions on creating 3D clouds from limited 2D information.

"The PlayStation 5 can handle larger datasets. So, after Forbidden West wrapped, we set to work writing a voxel cloud renderer prototype that could live up to our standards for quality, and actually allow the player to fly through highly detailed cloud formations."

Thus the DLC add-on won't get a PS4 release despite the fact that Horizon Forbidden West was released on both platforms when it launched.

When will Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores be released?

Forbidden West’s Burning Shores DLC has a $19.99 price tag, which is about the same price Guerrilla Games levied for Zero Dawn’s Frozen Wilds upon release. Not only that, but Guerrilla has stated that the DLC will be available on April 29th, 2023, and interested gamers may pre-order it right now.

Pre-ordering Burning Shores will get you the Blacktide Dye Outfit and Darktide Sharpshot Bow. Both things are available in-game from respective merchants.
