The men’s football category has been there since the inception of the Olympic games with the exception of the inaugural edition of the modern Summer Olympics in 1896 and the Los Angeles edition in 1932. Brazil won the last edition of the Olympics held in Tokyo in 2020.

The women’s football edition began in the 1996 Atlanta edition. Canada won the latest edition of the Olympics in Tokyo in 2020 in the women’s football category.

Several countries including big teams like Brazil, Argentina, Spain and France have won the men’s category while underdogs like Cameroon, Mexico and Canada have also won gold in the tournament.
