Marc Leishman has achieved a lot of success on the course. He was born in Warrnambool, a Victorian-era settlement. His amateur career in Australia was quite fruitful, and he won numerous junior competitions. At the age of 13, he defeated his father to win the Warrnambool Club Championship. He took home the titles of Victorian Junior Masters, South Australian Junior Masters, and Victorian Boys in 2001.

He became a professional in 2005. In 2006, he competed on the Von Nida Tour, winning two tournaments and finishing first in the order of merit. He debuted on the Nationwide Tour in 2007, ranking 92nd on the money list. In 2008, he won his first Nationwide Tour victory at the WNB Golf Classic by a record-equaling (with Chris Smith) eleven strokes. He earned the PGA Tour card for the 2009 season.

Leishman won the Farmers Insurance Open in January 2020, his fifth PGA Tour victory. Leishman came from behind to beat Jon Rahm by one stroke in the final round, shooting a final-round 65.

Leishman won the Zurich Classic of New Orleans in April 2021. He was paired with Cameron Smith, a fellow countryman. The pair defeated Louis Oosthuizen and Charl Schwartzel in a playoff. Leishman finished 51st in the men's competition at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, which took place in July/August 2021.

Leishman joined LIV Golf in August 2022.
