Michael Block, a club professional with six pro wins, was the third head club professional to achieve the highest finish at the PGA Championship; he finished tied for 15th place at the 2023 PGA Championship at 46 years old. Before him, Tommy Aycock was the first club professional to finish in 11th place and after him in 1986, Lonnie Neilsen had the same finish.

Block was born on June 15, 1976, in Reno, Nevada, in the United States. He began playing golf in his early teens and went to Parkway Central High School in Missouri. Later, he played college golf at the University of Missouri-St. Louis and Mississippi State University. However, he attained his golf course management degree from San Diego Golf Academy.

Block turned professional in 1998 and worked his way at the Lakes Country Club in Palm Desert, from assistant club professional to head club professional within six years, in 2004. By this time, he had joined Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club in Mission Viejo, California. He failed his PGA Tour Q school in 2007 but has qualified for the US Open twice and for the PGA Championship six times, though he never made the cut, except in 2023

Jackson was on the 2011 NCAA Division II National Championship team while he was a student at Cal State Monterey Bay. His squad defeated Lynn University of Florida 3-2 in the final.

About ten years ago, Jackson and Block crossed paths as rivals at the California State Open. One year, Block participated in the TaylorMade Pebble Beach Invitational and asked Jackson to caddie for him, and he did; they nearly won the event and sealed their partnership for a long time.

Prior to this, Jackson had worked at the PGA Tour Champions Pure Insurance Open for the preceding 15 years and the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, but exclusively for amateurs; he also worked on a few majors.

At the 2022 PGA Championship at the Southern Hills in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Jackson caddied for Block throughout the practice rounds. However, for the 2023 PGA Championship, Jackson was upgraded to full status.
