Rose Zhang began playing golf at the age of nine and quickly rose through the ranks of amateur golf. Zhang attended Pacific Academy for high school and later enrolled at Stanford University in 2021. Her amateur career is highlighted by several significant achievements, including winning the U.S. Women's Amateur in 2020 and the U.S. Girls' Junior in 2021. In 2022, she won the NCAA Division I Championship and was awarded the Annika Award as the top female college golfer. In 2023, she made headlines by winning the Augusta National Women's Amateur and became the first woman to win the NCAA Division I Championship twice.

Turning professional in 2023, Zhang made an impressive debut by winning the Mizuho Americas Open, becoming the first player to achieve this feat in her professional debut on the LPGA Tour since 1951. She also won at the Cognizant Founders Cup in May 2024, ending Nelly Korda's record-tying winning streak.
