Dead Man Walking is a storyline mission in GTA V played as protagonist Michael De Santa.
This mission begins with a cutscene showing Dave and Michael meeting at the Galileo Observatory where Dave Norton explains to Michael that he needs him to verify a body at the morgue after the two speak about how Trevor was back and that Dave’s problems were now sort of Michael’s problems too. Dave then knocks Michael out with a truncheon and gives him a few instructions as he goes unconscious.
Michael wakes up at the morgue in a body bag, surrounded by two morgue assistants, of which he takes down one and the other runs away. A guard then comes in with a gun, whom Michael also takes out and then looks for the body with the tag of the name “Ferdinand Kerimov”. He calls Dave Norton after finding the tag on an old black woman’s body who then instructs him to get out of the building.
Michael takes down a dozen or more guards on his way out of the building and has to then lose the cops after jumping down into a box of garbage from a window. Michael then calls Franklin and asks to meet him at the oil derricks where he explains to Franklin his connection with the Feds and about how crazy Trevor can be. Franklin resonates with him and lets him know that he was still by his side. Michael asks Franklin to leave town for a while and lay low.
At the end of this mission, Tracey calls Michael and tells him that he has ruined her life, again. Michael says she would thank him later but Tracey still seems very mad at Michael for his behavior.

At the end of this mission, Dave tells Michael to come meet him in between the IAA and FIB buildings. In the next mission, when Michael goes down to the location he sees Dave Norton sitting with two other men, Steve Haines and FIB agent Andreas Sanchez. Steve Haines lets Michael know that he was now “his boy”. Michael and Dave then set out on a mission for Steve.
"Dead man walking!" is a phrase that originated in American prisons to announce that an execution is about to take place.
The guard that searches for Michael wears the same outfit as Steve Haines.
Dave uses a unique truncheon to knock Michael out during the initial cutscene, which is not seen outside of the scene and cannot be obtained by the player.
One of the alarms that can be heard during the escape is the same used in The Lost and Damned mission Off Route, when Johnny Klebitz steals a Prison Bus.
