GTA Online Rally races are a fun and unique iteration of the standard races. Yes, reaching the finish line before your competitors is still the objective, but there is a twist as each car features two participants as a team, with both having really important roles. Starting a Rally race is pretty simple, but can feel a little complicated to those who are not familiar with it.
For anyone requiring assistance, this article explains how to participate in GTA Online Rally races in 2025, as well as some other important things that you should know.
How to participate in GTA Online Rally races: Everything that you need to know
GTA Online features different categories of races such as Land Races, Air Races, Sea Races, Stunt Races, and more. Players can look through all of them in the multiplayer's pause menu itself and participate in whichever race category they want. As for Rally races, players can start any Land Race and turn it into a Rally race before the competition begins.
Here is a step-by-step guide on how to participate in GTA Online Rally races:
- Step 1 - Access the pause menu while in a GTA Online session
- Step 2 - Go to the tab labeled ONLINE
- Step 3 - Click on Jobs
- Step 4 - Click on Play Job
- Step 5 - Select Rockstar Created
- Step 6 - Scroll down to Races and start any Land Race
- Step 7 - Set Race Type to Rally before the race begins
Whenever you hover over a race's name in the Races playlist, its type, that is Land Race, Air Race, or anything else, will be shown in the menu on the right side of the screen with other details.
Needless to say, multiple players will be required to start a Rally race as each participating team needs two players - a Driver and a Co-Driver.
Note that only the host can change the Race type, so if you want to participate in GTA Online Rally races, then you will have to host one yourself or will have to ask a friend to do so.
Hosting races in Public sessions is quite easy and often quick since there usually are a lot of players to invite. Alternatively, you can also start Rally races with friends in private lobbies.
What are Rally races in GTA Online: All you need to know
As mentioned earlier, each team in a Rally race consists of two participants, a Driver and a Co-Driver. In a standard race, each player must go through all the dedicated checkpoints to the finish line.
In GTA Online Rally races, the Driver is unable to see any checkpoints. The Co-Driver; however, can see them and it is their job to guide their Driver through all the checkpoints to the finish line.
The directions can be provided via text chat, but as you may have guessed, this can prove to be complicated and even depends on how fast one can type. Additionally, GTA 5 Enhanced PC does not support text chat at the time of this writing. This option might be added to it in the future, but nothing can be guaranteed at the moment.
Fortunately, each team in GTA Online Rally races can use a microphone to communicate between themselves too (opposing teams cannot hear others' conversation), and this makes things comparatively much easier.
