GTA 6 is getting closer to its rumored official announcement date, and fans are getting more excited by the day. While Rockstar Games has been keeping the upcoming game's development process under wraps for a long time, the recent Earnings Call conference held by Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar's parent company, gave fans renewed hope for an official announcement. Although the officials did not specifically mention Grand Theft Auto 6, the community is eagerly anticipating the title.

Meanwhile, Sony's PlayStation Showcase 2023 event will also take place on May 24, 2023, where the company is expected to announce a number of upcoming games for the PlayStation 5. Although Sony does not own the Grand Theft Auto franchise, many fans are expecting an announcement about the title during the event.

GTA 6 will likely only be available on higher generation consoles

While Rockstar Games has yet to comment on the availability of the next Untitled Grand Theft Auto game, the community is speculating that it will not be released on last-generation PlayStation 4 or lower Sony consoles.

The current title comes in two editions: Grand Theft Auto 5: Premium Edition and GTA 5: Expanded and Enhanced. While the former version is available on all major platforms, including PC, the latter is only available on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles. In addition, Rockstar Games has begun to cut new content from older versions and provide it only to the latest version.

The multiplayer experience on PlayStation 4 is also deteriorating as the game severely lags and makes it impossible to play. Despite numerous complaints from the player base, the developers have done nothing significant to improve GTA 5 Online on PlayStation 4 and have instead shifted their focus to attracting more players on PlayStation 5.

These factors led fans to believe that releasing GTA 6 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC will be the top priority of the gaming studio, completely abandoning the older generation consoles.

Hardware limitations may also be a major factor in Rockstar Games' decision to abandon older consoles. The map of GTA 6 is said to be larger than the current one, with a more diverse environment. Grand Theft Auto 5, which requires a significant amount of hardware power, is already lagging on PlayStation 4. In that case, releasing a more power-hungry game on less powerful hardware will be a setback for the studio.

Many previous leaks have suggested that the title could be announced in late 2023, with a release date of 2024-2025. Fans are also hoping for some good news during the PlayStation Showcase 2023 event.
