Potion crafting is a new mechanic introduced with Destiny 2 Episode Revenant. As the name suggests, players must gather materials throughout different game activities and conjure potions for different buffs. The idea of potions hasn't been implemented in the game before, as the Guardians have been self-sustaining with the power of Light and Darkness for all these years.

However, the latest addition of potion crafting can help players take things to a higher level, where each buff includes specific item drops, elemental and utility buffs, and a lot more.

This article lists all the basics needed to craft potions in Destiny 2 Episode Revenant, alongside a few tips to make things easier.

Prerequisites

To unlock the potion crafting feature in Destiny 2, you must complete the quest steps until the game asks you to run a "Major Fieldwork." Follow the on-screen instructions to craft the first green potion, alongside a few reagents required from within the laboratory. Here's what to do:

  • Interact with the Tonic Table to select the potion you want to craft.
  • Interact with the shelf to the right of the Tonic table for the required reagents.
  • Head over to the Fallen Spider machine to Test Taste the potion.
  • Imbue the potion on the machine to get the selected potion as drops.

These four steps are the basics of creating a potion in Episode Revenant. Now, there are different rarities to each potion (alongside the buffs and required crafting materials).

How to craft higher-tier potions

Every green potion from the Tonic table can be upgraded to blue tiers, followed by purple. This must be done to unlock more Minor Fieldworks from Eido, which, in turn, will then unlock more Major Fieldworks. However, let us start with the green tier potions.

Start by acquiring five of any green potion from the Tonic table. "Acquiring" is a keyword here, as you shouldn't go ahead and craft the five potions. Just acquire five of them from the table, and you do not need to go collect reagents for them.

The potions in question can be any one of the Volatile tonics, with the available options being Stasis Crystallization, Renewing Finishers, Weakening Void, Amplified Arc, and Protecting Frost.

Once you have crafted five of these green tonics, you will eventually see two additional sections pop up within the Tonic table inventory.

Open the Volatile Tonics section, which is to the left, and you will see the blue-tier version of the green tonic you just made five copies of.

For example, if you just made five copies of "Diluted Tonic of Protecting Frost," you will find a blue-tier "Potent Tonic of Protecting Frost" within the "Volatile Tonics" tab of the Tonic table.

Crafting each blue version of the potions will count as a newly acquired recipe, further allowing you to pick up more Minor Fieldworks from Eido.

How to get reagents

Currently, the most efficient way to farm for reagents, which are the Volatile and Enriching materials for potion crafting, is by running the Salvation Onslaught and the Playlist Onslaught.

There will be additional objectives within each wave of these Onslaught encounters, dropping more materials from completion.

Important things to know

To apply the crafted potion on your character, head to the Inventory, and then open the "Tonic Capsule." Here, you can equip any one of the Volatile potions you crafted, or any one of the Enriching potions.

Volatile potions grant buffs to your artifact perks, providing increased benefits on top of the existing perks.

Enriching potions, however, grant a boon to the player that boosts the drop rate of specific gear pieces from selected activities.

A buff from the green-tier potion stays for 20 minutes, with the timer increasing to 40 minutes from blue potions, and an hour from purple potions.

Note that the countdown for these buffs starts the moment you equip the potions in the capsule.
