If you don't know what a Mentat is in Dune Awakening, chances are that you're missing out on a lot of tactical combat options. Of course, by no means will this dampen your experience on Arrakis, but having options to choose from is always good. But what is a Mentat?
To put it briefly, Mentats are calculative, precise, and methodical in their approach to anything they set out to do. They can be death-dealers or good with logistics; nothing is beyond or above them. If you'd like to follow in their footsteps, here's how to go out training your Mentat skills.
How to unlock Mentat skills in Dune Awakening (Basic Trainer)

If you didn't start as a Mentat, you'll have to do a bit of legwork to get started on your Mentat skills. To do this, you'll first have to travel to Riftwatch. It's a POI located on the right side of Hagga Basin, in a region known as Hagga Rift.
In this region, you'll find a large base, and in it, you'll come across an NPC called Samin Moro. Once you interact with her, you'll get a special quest that will start you up on the path to becoming a Mentat or at least, helping you unlock the skill tree.
For the task at hand, you'll have to do some farming, run around the Vermillius Gap, and eventually, poison a few people to earn Samin Moro's trust. Once you return to her, she will agree to teach you the basics.
Advanced Mentat Trainer location in Dune Awakening

Once you've had some experience (and fun) using your Mentat skills, the next logical step will be to get better at them. For this, you will need to travel to Arakeen and look for the bar. It will be located on the ground floor of the city's main area.
Inside, you will find an NPC known as Zayn De Witte. He's usually found at the back of the bar, just keeping going straight once inside until you spot him. Once you complete tasks set forth by him, he'll agree to teach you Advanced Mentat skills, giving you more tactical options to use in battle.
Is it worth unlocking Mentat skills in Dune Awakening?

Mentats are not just tacticians. Paperwork is not their only skill. As a Mentat, you will have access to several tactical abilities that will support you and your allies in battle: The Sentinel, Poison Capsule, Shield Wall, and Gravity Mine are just a few to name.
As a Mentat, you'll also gain access to passives that give you bonus ranged damage. These can be stacked with passives from the Trooper skill tree to turn your character into a weapon of destruction in Dune Awakening. That being said, if you like approaching combat tactfully and tactically or playing a support role, the Mentat is your calling.
