Kaido of the Beasts, known as the "Strongest Creature," was a former member of the Four Emperors and the leader of the Beasts Pirates. He's also the father of Yamato.

Kaido's past is marked by a rocky journey. He was forced into the Marines but escaped, eventually joining the dangerous Rocks Pirates. He received a Mythical Zoan-type Devil Fruit from Charlotte Linlin, popularly known as Big Mom, and after their group's downfall, he formed his own crew with the goal of challenging the World Government.

In the Wano Country, Kaido allied with Kurozomi Orochi and occupied Onigashima as his base. He ruled with an iron fist, even surviving an attempt by Kozuki Oden and the Nine Red Scabbards to overthrow him.

After 20 years, he decided to dispose of Orochi and pursue his New Onigashima Project. However, his plans were foiled when the Ninja-Pirate-Mink-Samurai Alliance raided Onigashima and defeated the Beasts Pirates. Monkey D. Luffy's defeat of Kaido led to him losing his status as one of the Four Emperors.

Kaido is an overarching antagonist in the Dressrosa Saga and serves as the primary antagonist in the Wano Country Arc and Saga.

Kaido’s History

Kaido was born on the Grand Line 59 years ago. As a child, he lived in the Vodka Kingdom, which would attack other towns to afford World Government membership. He became their strongest soldier at just 10 years old.

When he questioned this system, the king tried to sell him to the Marines to attend a meeting called the Levely. Kaido escaped, got a bounty of Beli 70,000,000, and repeatedly got captured to eat the ship's food.

When he was 15, Kaido was on an island called Hachinosu and was invited by Edward Newgate to join the Rocks Pirates, led by Rocks D. Xebec. He formed a close bond with a fellow crewmate, Charlotte Linlin, who gave him the Uo Uo no Mi, Model: Seiryu.

The Rocks Pirates clashed with Gol D. Roger and Monkey D. Garp on God Valley 38 years ago and were defeated, causing the crew to break up. Linlin gave Kaido a special Devil Fruit, putting him in her debt.

As a pirate, Kaido was defeated seven times and captured 18 times by the Marines and other Emperors. Once, he was taken to Punk Hazard, where his DNA was used to replicate his Devil Fruit by Dr. Vegapunk, but the results weren't good. About 33 years ago, he escaped and started his own crew. He met a strong boy named Alber, rescued him from the World Government's experiments, and made him his right-hand man, calling him "King."

Kaido wasn't considered one of the top pirates until after Gol D. Roger's execution when he, along with Shanks, joined Whitebeard and Big Mom as one of the Four Emperors.

Around 28 years ago, Kurozumi Higurashi offered Kaido territory in a skilled nation to build weapons factories. Kaido accepted and began taking control of Wano Country when Kurozumi Orochi became the shogun. During this time, Kaido had a child named Yamato who identified as Oden, leading to a conflict between them.

25 years ago, Kaido faced off against Kozuki Oden at the shogun's castle. They struck a deal: Oden would dance naked in the Flower Capital every week, and the citizens would be spared. Kaido also promised to leave Wano in five years. Kaido flew over the castle in his dragon form afterward.

23 years ago, Kaido defeated Gecko Moria in the Ringo region of Wano. Moria lost his crew and held a grudge against Kaido.

20 years ago, Oden and his retainers clashed with Kaido's crew in the Udon region. Oden wounded Kaido, but Kaido knocked him out when distracted by a deception involving Momonosuke.

On the day of Oden's execution, Kaido and Orochi watched as Oden survived an hour in boiling oil while holding his retainers. Despite the deal, Kaido shot Oden's head and burned down Oden Castle.

Kaido spared Momonosuke's life but threatened him. During this period, he discovered a Road Poneglyph in the submerged part of Wano with the help of Jack, a fish-man.

Not long after Oden's death, Kaido confronted his son, Yamato, who had used Haoshoku Haki to knock out many of Kaido's subordinates. While Kaido saw potential in Yamato's abilities, he still insisted on punishing him for calling himself Oden.

Kaido decided to lock Yamato in a cave on Onigashima for a whole month with a few other samurai, leaving swords inside the cave to force them to fight for food. He told Yamato that this was the consequence of his actions before leaving. When the samurai eventually escaped, Kaido learned about it from his subordinates.

Ten years ago, supporters of the Kozuki Family gathered to stage a rebellion before the return of Oden's retainers. Kaido personally intervened and brutally massacred most of the rebels and their families. He also faced a thief named Shutenmaru during this time.

About 3 to 4 years ago, Kaido and his top subordinates were away from Onigashima on an expedition, and the Spade Pirates took advantage of this period to invade. Kaido returned to find his dragon statue destroyed, which angered him.

Within the last four years, Kaido collaborated with the Warlord of the Sea, Donquixote Doflamingo, and the rogue Marine scientist, Caesar Clown, to create an army of artificial Zoan Devil Fruit users using SMILE.

Marineford Arc

During the Marineford Arc, when Whitebeard was on his way to save Ace from execution at Marineford, Kaido and King attempted to attack him. However, their confrontation was interrupted by Shanks, who intercepted Kaido. The outcome of their encounter remains unknown, but Shanks later arrived unharmed at Marineford.

During the Timeskip

Kaido secretly recruited the On Air Pirates as one of his subordinate crews.

After receiving a letter from Kurozumi Kanjuro, Orochi informed Kaido about the return of Oden's retainers due to Kozuki Toki's powers. Initially skeptical, Kaido wanted the samurai captured alive for questioning, and Orochi vouched for Kanjuro's trustworthiness.

Dressrosa Arc

Kaido went to Ballon Terminal and encountered Urouge, who allowed him to proceed with his apparent suicide attempt. Kaido jumped off a sky island but survived with only a minor headache.

He met the Kid, On Air, and Hawkins alliance, expressed his frustration with the world, and offered them a chance to join him. While Hawkins surrendered, Eustass Kid and Killer refused and fought Kaido. Kaido easily defeated them, taking Kid prisoner and forcing Kid's crew into his service.

Zou Arc

After Jack's defeat, Apoo contacted Kaido and revealed that they had lost contact with Jack's fleet following their second attack on Zou.

Upon learning that Jack failed to rescue Doflamingo, Kaido became enraged. He was unable to acquire more SMILEs, which meant he couldn't create more Gifters. In a fit of anger, Kaido mentioned Monkey D. Luffy and Trafalgar Law, smashing one of his subordinates with his mace. He believed that Luffy and Law were not a threat to him, pointing to Eustass Kid's defeat as an example.

Levely Arc

Kaido read about Luffy's exploits in Totto Land and was angered by Luffy's presence in Big Mom's territory. Big Mom contacted him, demanding the right to kill Luffy. Kaido refused her request, as he wanted to deal with Luffy himself, but Big Mom reminded him of a debt they had.

Wano Country Arc

After getting drunk, Kaido flew to Kuri in Wano Country. Along the way, he found Speed and Tama and attacked them due to a report of treachery. He then went to Okobore Town and called out for Jack to bring Luffy and Law to him. While flying over Okobore Town, he recognized Shutenmaru and asked him to join him, but Kaido was in a drunken and partially stuporous state, unnerving even his own subordinates like Jack.

Basil Hawkins informed Kaido that Luffy and Law were hiding in the ruins of Oden Castle. Kaido flew toward the castle and destroyed it with a heat breath. However, Luffy hit him with a giant punch.

After crashing to the ground, Luffy got Kaido's attention and attacked him using his powers. Kaido retaliated with fire breath, but Luffy managed to dodge and unleash powerful attacks. Kaido eventually struck Luffy down with a single hit, rendering him unconscious.

Despite Luffy being unconscious, Kaido noticed that he was still glaring at him and realized Luffy possessed Haoshoku Haki. He ordered his men to imprison Luffy with the intention of breaking his spirit and making him a subordinate. Kaido then departed to continue drinking, annoyed that he had sobered up.

Upon hearing that Big Mom and her crew were trying to enter Wano, Kaido ordered his subordinates to stop them. He also learned that King had knocked the Queen Mama Chanter off a waterfall.

While Queen was at Udon, Kaido informed him of Komurasaki's death and watched Shimotsuki Yasuie's execution broadcast.

After Big Mom arrived in Onigashima, Kaido ordered his subordinates to release her from her cuffs. The two Emperors clashed weapons, causing the sky to split. They argued and fought throughout the night before coming to an agreement. Kaido announced to his subordinates that he and Big Mom were forming a pirate alliance to take over the world, surprising many.

As preparations for the Fire Festival continued, Kaido asked for his son and met with the Tobiroppo, assigning them the task of finding Yamato, his son, promising a chance to challenge one of the All-Stars if they succeeded.

During the festival, Kaido enjoyed the festivities with Orochi, and Kanjuro arrived with Momonosuke. Kaido expressed disappointment with Momonosuke and learned that the Kozuki rebellion plot failed, and Luffy, Zoro, Kid, and Killer were on the island.

At the Performance Stage, Kaido announced his "New Onigashima" project, outlining his plans to find the Ancient Weapons, the One Piece, and transform Wano Country. When Orochi objected, Kaido promptly decapitated him.

He revealed his intention to move his base to the Flower Capital, make Wano a pirate nation, and have Yamato become the shogun. Orochi's subordinates submitted to Kaido out of self-preservation.

Kaido then turned to Momonosuke, asking for his name and offering to spare him if he denied being Oden's son. However, Momonosuke refused to lie, leading the Scabbards to attack Kaido.

They inflicted wounds on him, and Kaido tried to discourage them by claiming their pirate allies would betray them. Upon hearing Luffy's declaration of war, Kaido transformed into his dragon form and flew to the roof of the Skull Dome with the Scabbards hanging onto him.

On the rooftop, Kaido commented on the Mink Tribe's ability to transform into their Sulong forms. Jack joined the fight against the Sulong minks and was severely injured, prompting Kaido to intervene and stop them from killing Jack.

He continued to battle the Scabbards, using fire breath and other attacks, but they managed to injure him. Kaido couldn't understand how their attacks could harm him. Eventually, the Scabbards replicated Oden's Two Sword Style stance and struck Kaido's scar, causing significant damage.

While recovering, Kaido acknowledged the Scabbards' determination but regained the upper hand and incapacitated them. He then used his powers to lift the island of Onigashima above sea level and began moving it to the Flower Capital.

Big Mom joined Kaido on the rooftop, and they discussed their plans, including dropping Onigashima on a castle symbolizing the Kozuki clan. Big Mom inquired about the Road Poneglyph, revealing her intentions, but Kaido brushed it off.

Later, Kid, Killer, Law, Zoro, and Luffy arrived on the roof. Luffy attacked Kaido with a powerful Gear Third punch, causing him to bleed. Kaido retaliated, but Luffy managed to avoid the full impact of the attack.

Law teleported Luffy away from danger, and Kaido acknowledged Luffy's resilience. Kaido then transformed into his dragon form, joining Big Mom in the sky, as the five members of the Worst Generation prepared to face the Emperors.

In the intense battle on the rooftop, Kaido unleashed a series of powerful attacks against the members of the Worst Generation. Luffy, Kid, and Killer managed to land significant blows on Kaido, with Luffy using Gear Third and Kid using his mechanical arm.

Law tried to attack Kaido's heart with Gamma Knife, and Killer attacked Kaido from the inside using his Kamaa Sonic technique. However, Kaido shook them off, showing his resilience. Luffy struck Kaido with powerful attacks like Gomu Gomu no Kong Gatling, but Kaido continued to fight back.

After Luffy's barrage, Kid and Killer attempted to press their advantage, but Kaido created twisters to stop them. Luffy, who was exhausted from using Gear Fourth, got caught in the wind. Kaido then bit into Luffy, but Zoro intervened and sliced through Kaido's scales with his swords. Kaido recognized one of Zoro's swords, Enma, and launched wind blades at the Supernovas.

As the battle continued, Kaido transformed into his hybrid form and complimented Luffy for his determination. The fight escalated, with Kaido and Big Mom attacking the Worst Generation simultaneously. Zoro temporarily blocked their attack, causing significant damage to the Skull Dome.

Kaido engaged in a fierce battle with Luffy, both trying to land a decisive blow. Luffy was eventually knocked out again.

As Big Mom teetered on the edge of falling into the sea, Kaido attacked Zoro to allow Prometheus to rescue her. However, Law struck Kaido with Injection Shot, and Kaido retaliated.

Luffy regained consciousness and attacked Kaido with his understanding of Haoshoku Haki-infused attacks. Kaido acknowledged Luffy's enjoyment of the battle and his ability to use Haoshoku Haki in his attacks. They clashed, with Luffy repeatedly striking Kaido without making contact, eventually knocking him down.

Kaido got up and noted Luffy's enjoyment of the escalating risk in their fight. They resumed their battle, using Haoshoku Haki-infused strikes against each other. Despite Luffy's newfound ability, Kaido was still formidable and eventually defeated Luffy, knocking him off the rooftop.

After this, Kaido decided to chase after Momonosuke. He ordered Bao Huang to announce his victory through Onigashima and pursued Momonosuke through the hole Big Mom had created earlier. He eventually found Momonosuke and Kin'emon in the first-floor attic.

Kaido prepared a powerful attack coated in Haoshoku Haki, striking through Kin'emon's swords as Momonosuke cried out. Kaido severely injured Kin'emon and then pursued Momonosuke and Shinobu to the edge of Onigashima, where he cornered them. However, Shinobu used her ability to escape the floating island by breaking off the land they were on, saving Momonosuke from Kaido's attack.

In the midst of the fierce battle, Kaido heard Yamato calling him out from the top of the Skull Dome, challenging him to a fight. Kaido transformed back into his dragon form and returned to the rooftop. He mocked Yamato for resisting his plans and encouraged him to give up on becoming shogun.

Yamato, however, remained determined to support Luffy and declared allegiance to him, believing that Luffy would defeat Kaido and liberate Wano. Kaido transformed into his Human-Beast form, and the father and son clashed in their hybrid forms.

During their battle, Kaido revealed that he had gone to great lengths to obtain the Inu Inu no Mi, Model: Okuchi no Makami (Wolf Mythical Zoan), but he never intended for Yamato to eat it. He emphasized the fruit's significance as the guardian deity of Wano and insisted that Yamato should protect Wano for him. Yamato rejected Kaido's proposal.

As their battle raged on, Kaido attacked Yamato with powerful flying strikes, determined to kill him. He reminded Yamato that bearing the burden of calling oneself Oden came with the risk of an all-out war, not just a family feud. They clashed with advanced Haoshoku-infused attacks, creating a powerful clash.

The battle continued with fierce exchanges of blows and attacks. Kaido acknowledged Yamato's attempts to make friends and allies but believed they were in vain due to his origins as Kaido's child. Kaido attacked relentlessly, but Yamato held his own.

When Luffy and Momonosuke appeared in the sky above Onigashima, both Luffy and Yamato attacked Kaido simultaneously, forcing him to revert to his dragon form. Kaido expressed amusement at their attacks and noted that the world did not need two dragons.

Luffy and Momonosuke continued their assault on Kaido, landing powerful blows and surprising the Emperor with their resilience and teamwork. They combined their Haoshoku Haki-infused attacks, creating a clash that split the sky above Onigashima, revealing the full moon.

However, Kaido fought back and intended to finish off Momonosuke. Yamato intervened to protect him, and Luffy also joined the battle, holding Kaido at bay with his legs. As the island approached the Capital, Kaido's Flame Clouds weakened, causing the island to crumble slowly.

Kaido and Luffy clashed relentlessly, trading powerful blows and creating a spectacular battle. They laughed and commented on the fight becoming enjoyable. Kaido started drinking alcohol to become stronger, acknowledging Luffy's power.

In a heated exchange, Kaido went through different stages of a special state due to his alcohol consumption, delivering a severe blow to Luffy with Ragnaraku. He lamented the loss of Onigashima and prepared to use powerful attacks, but Luffy continued to fight back.

During their battle, Luffy managed to land a reverse Haoshoku-infused kick on Kaido's chin, seemingly damaging him significantly. The two clashed in a headbutt, and Kaido's Haoshoku Haki grew stronger. In the final stage of Shuron Hakke, Okori Jogo, Kaido fired powerful attacks at Luffy, but Luffy blocked a swing with Haoshoku Haki and struck Kaido's abdomen with a Haoshoku-infused kick, dealing a significant blow to the Emperor.

The epic battle between Kaido and Luffy continued with intense exchanges of blows and powerful attacks. Kaido, sensing that Big Mom had been defeated, emitted his Haoshoku Haki in rage. Luffy was impressed that Law and Kid had managed to win their battle against Big Mom.

As Kaido reminisced about his first encounter with Law and Kid, he transitioned through various stages of emotions, including Naki Jogo, Amae Jogo, and Satsuriku Jogo, with tears and laughter. However, Luffy was determined to defeat Kaido and drove him out of Wano.

Luffy entered Gear Fourth: Snakeman and unleashed a barrage of attacks, including Gomu Gomu no Hydra. Kaido was seemingly unable to respond to the overwhelming assault, and he transitioned into his Amae Jogo mode, appearing disoriented.

Kaido managed to escape Luffy's attacks using advanced Kenbunshoku Haki and his Nusubito Jogo. He then transformed into his full dragon form, grabbed Luffy in his mouth, and flew high into the sky. Kaido released Luffy and prepared to unleash a point-blank Bolo Breath straight down onto Onigashima.

Luffy transitioned into his Boundman form and managed to avoid Kaido's attack by flying back to the top of the island. He countered with a Gomu Gomu no Over Kong Gun, disrupting Kaido's preparations for the Bolo Breath.

Kaido quickly recovered and entered his hybrid form, using Satsuriku Jogo mode to strike Luffy with Hourai Hakke. However, Luffy was determined to end the battle with one final hit and charged at Kaido with another Over Kong Gun.

At that moment, CP0 agent Guernica intervened by locking Luffy's attacking arm and using Tekkai, allowing Kaido to knock Luffy down. Kaido was frustrated by the interference, reminiscent of his battle against Oden.

Kaido returned inside the castle in his dragon form, declaring that Luffy was dead and demanding Momonosuke's surrender. He threatened to put the people of Wano to work producing weapons and stated that he would not stop fighting until Momonosuke presented himself.

Suddenly, Kaido felt the rhythmic beating of a drum and was grabbed by a massive hand. Luffy had awakened his Devil Fruit abilities and dragged Kaido back to the rooftop. Luffy swung Kaido around before slamming him onto the ground.

Kaido expressed happiness that Luffy had survived, and fired a Bolo Breath at him, but was shocked when Luffy reflected it back, causing it to explode in Kaido's face. Kaido apologized for the interference during their duel, and both fighters prepared for their final confrontation.

While watching Luffy bounce around unpredictably, Kaido noted the unusual nature of Luffy's rubber-like transformation. Luffy used his abilities to bounce inside Kaido's body, inflate both of them, and launch himself out of Kaido's body.

Kaido bit down on Luffy, but Luffy bounced around, using Kaido as a jump rope. Kaido unleashed attacks, including Kosanze Ragnaraku, but Luffy continued to fight back.

The battle culminated in a clash where Luffy punched through Kaido's face, causing him to fall onto his back. Kaido was determined to defeat Luffy, but Luffy reassured him that he was not afraid of death.

As the battle raged on, both combatants were pushed to their limits in this epic showdown for the future of Wano.

In the midst of their intense battle, Kaido and Luffy exchanged powerful attacks and words. Kaido asked Luffy who he was, and Luffy boldly declared that he was the one who would surpass Kaido and become the Pirate King.

Kaido acknowledged Luffy's unyielding spirit and the incredible power he possessed. He admitted that he had lost a lot in the war, but Luffy was determined to take everything back.

During their clash, Kaido used his Gundari Ryuseigun attack, but Luffy managed to land multiple punches on him as well, stretching his arms through Kaido.

As the battle continued, Kaido noticed smoke rising from below the roof and believed that the entire castle was on fire, endangering everyone inside. However, Luffy reassured him that he trusted his friends to handle the situation.

Luffy used his Gomu Gomu no Kaminari to throw a bolt of lightning at Kaido, but Kaido evaded the attack and struck Luffy, sending him flying. Luffy then used another lightning bolt to propel himself back for another attack, but Kaido dodged again and hit Luffy on the head.

During this exchange, Kaido emphasized the importance of Haki in conquering the seas, mentioning that even Roger, who lacked a strong Devil Fruit, became the Pirate King with the power of Haki.

Luffy continued to press his attack, grabbing onto Kaido while being high above the storm clouds. Kaido tried to shake Luffy off but failed, and Luffy inflated his fist to a massive size. Kaido decided to take the attack head-on by enveloping himself in fire, causing Luffy to let go.

Kaido told Luffy that Oden had been burned to death, and the people of Wano had hoped for a savior. He believed that his fire would vaporize Luffy's fist, but Luffy's Gomu Gomu no Bajrang Gun clashed with Kaido's Shoryu: Kaen Hakke.

In the midst of their clash, Kaido asked Luffy about the kind of world he wanted to create, and Luffy's answer was simple: a world where his friends could eat as much as they wanted.

Their final clash resulted in a powerful punch from Luffy that broke off Kaido's left horn and sent him crashing deep into the ground. Kaido was rendered unconscious and reverted to his human form.

As a result of their battle, Kaido fell into Wano's magma chamber, and an underwater volcano erupted from where Onigashima had previously been located, with both Kaido and Big Mom presumably caught up in the explosion.

Kaido’s Personality

Kaido is a merciless and aggressive warrior who constantly seeks excitement and chaos. He harbors a general sense of apathy and boredom, often considering the world mundane. He's driven by a desire to start the largest war in the world, as he believes it's too monotonous otherwise. His personality is grumpy, with little pleasure or excitement in his life.

Kaido in One Piece.

He reveres strength and military might above all else and follows the philosophy of "survival of the fittest." Kaido has a strong sense of honor when it comes to battles and despises any interference in his fights against worthy opponents. He believes that death is the moment of true glory and admires those who die fighting bravely.

Kaido is a heavy drinker, and when inebriated, his mood changes erratically. He may become violent and destructive, caring little for his surroundings or allies. He's known for his love of sake and often prefers not to be sober.

Despite his arrogance and ruthlessness, Kaido does acknowledge individuals of exceptional strength and respects their power. He's willing to recruit formidable enemies into his crew and offer them opportunities for promotion based on their strength.

In battle, he displays a strong sense of personal honor and pride. He prefers fair fights and despises any interference in battles he deems worthy, going so far as to kill those who meddle in his duels. Kaido values strength and respects powerful adversaries, often offering them opportunities to join his crew based on their prowess.

Despite his code of honor in battle, Kaido can be treacherous and opportunistic outside of combat. He believes betrayal is part of a pirate's nature and is willing to make false promises and lies to achieve his goals. He has no qualms about killing allies who outlive their usefulness, as seen with his beheading of Orochi.

Kaido’s Appearance

Kaido in One Piece.
Still from the anime.

Kaido is a massive and imposing figure, standing at a staggering height of 710 cm. He possesses a well-muscled torso with wide shoulders and thick arms, giving him an intimidating presence. His legs are similarly built, but his feet are relatively small compared to his hands. Notably, he has a pair of gray-white, sharp-pointed horns protruding from the sides of his head, and during his final battle with Monkey D. Luffy, his left horn is broken.

Kaido's facial features include sharp, often bloodshot eyes with small yellow irises, a heavy brow ridge, a hook nose, and a large mouth. He typically sports a deep frown and has moderate wrinkles on his face. Kaido's long, black hair reaches his mid-back and is unruly, with flat, rectangular locks. He also has a Fu Manchu mustache and a spiked goatee.

He bears a massive scar in the shape of an X on his right side, inflicted by Kozuki Oden, and another scar added by Roronoa Zoro running from the top left point of the first scar to near his left shoulder. Kaido's left pectoral features a tattoo resembling reptilian scales that extends down his left arm to his wrist, ending with a white (dark in the manga) skull tattoo.

Kaido's attire includes a blue-purple feathered sleeveless overcoat, a lavender tight-fitting open shirt with long sleeves, and an off-white rope belt with hanging shide and red ribbons. He also has black pants tucked into plain black boots. After his battle with Big Mom, he wears a white version of his usual shirt.

Kaido’s Abilities

Still from the anime.

Kaido, once a member of the Four Emperors, is renowned as the "Strongest Creature" in the world. His bounty of Beli 4,611,100,000 is the highest known among living pirates, surpassed only by the late Whitebeard and Gol D. Roger.

As the Governor-General of the Beasts Pirates, he commands over 20,000 members and enjoys authority over the samurai forces in Wano Country, thanks to his alliance with Shogun Kurozumi Orochi.

From a young age and during his time as a pirate apprentice with the Rocks Pirates, Kaido displayed formidable strength, which only grew over the years. His audacious feats include attempting to assassinate Whitebeard, clashing with Shanks, and engaging in a battle against Big Mom. He is considered one of the few capable of stopping Blackbeard, and even Big Mom doubted Monkey D. Luffy's chances of defeating him.

Kaido's mastery of Haki is exceptional. He possesses all three forms: Haoshoku Haki, Busoshoku Haki, and Kenbunshoku Haki. His Haoshoku Haki can be infused into objects, allowing him to incapacitate powerful opponents like Luffy, Zoro, and Law with a single strike.

He is a skilled user of Busoshoku Haki, capable of imbuing it into his weapon, the kanabo named Hassaikai. This enables him to strike opponents from a distance with incredible force. Kaido's Kenbunshoku Haki grants him the ability to sense voices and foresee brief glimpses of the future, aiding in the precise dodging of powerful attacks.

His signature weapon, Hassaikai, is a massive, black, spiked kanabo. His immense strength and Haki mastery allow him to deliver devastating blows, generate shockwaves, and incapacitate formidable foes with ease. Kaido can enter a unique state called Shuron Hakke, or "Drunken Dragon Bagua," by consuming alcohol. In this state, his movements become unpredictable, he rapidly shifts between his Zoan forms, and his Haki gains increased strength.

Physical Abilities

Kaido possesses exceptional physical abilities even without relying on his Zoan-type Devil Fruit powers. He is renowned for his raw strength, able to send people flying great distances with a single swing of his kanabo. Kaido once singlehandedly sunk nine enormous prison ships and earned respect from the vicious pirates of the Rocks Pirates during his time as an apprentice.

His durability is nearly unmatched, with ordinary Busoshoku Haki attacks unable to harm him. He withstood relentless blows from Luffy's Gear 4 and even more powerful Gear 4 attacks, remaining mostly unscathed. Kaido's body is often described as nigh-indestructible, and even multiple wounds inflicted by the Red Scabbards had minimal impact on him.

Kaido's remarkable endurance extends to his mental fortitude as well. He has survived countless execution attempts, and suicide attempts, and even endured the continuous battle with Big Mom for days without showing signs of fatigue or injury.

Kaido's speed in combat is astonishing, allowing him to move instantly from one spot to another. He has effortlessly outpaced opponents, even when they possess advanced observation Haki.

Devil Fruit

His Mythical Zoan-type Devil Fruit, the Uo Uo no Mi, Model: Seiryu, grants him the power to transform into a massive serpentine Azure Dragon. In this form, his body is covered in extremely durable blue scales, enhancing his already incredible natural resilience and physical strength. His Human-Beast form offers increased speed, agility, and mobility.

As a dragon, Kaido can create special clouds called "Flame Clouds" that serve as footholds, allowing him to traverse the air. These clouds can also lift islands out of the sea. He can release devastating attacks, including fire breath capable of obliterating mountains, lightning bolts generated by roaring, sharp wind blades released by blowing, and tornadoes that can blow enemies away.

Kaido's mastery of his Devil Fruit enables him to use certain draconic abilities without transformation, such as creating Flame Clouds to levitate Onigashima or performing elemental attacks during battle.

While he doesn't show much concern for his crew, he cares to some extent. He wants to make them stronger through artificial Devil Fruits and encourages them to battle for higher ranks. He can become violent when drunk, even towards his crew.

Allies

Big Mom

Kaido first met Big Mom when he was 15, and they were part of the Rocks Pirates. Initially, they had a somewhat friendly bond, with Big Mom considering him like a younger brother due to their shared time in the crew. However, they now vehemently want to kill each other and have a tumultuous relationship. Kaido does not respect Big Mom, referring to her as an "old hag." He refused to let her kill Luffy in Wano and threatened to kill her if she entered his territory, ignoring the life debt they once had.

Despite their antagonism, they temporarily set aside their differences to pursue their dream of world domination, which they both share. They now interact jovially, drinking and planning to work together, even though their ultimate goal is still to kill each other.

During their fight alongside each other, they have a combative and vitriolic attitude, frequently exchanging insults and complaints about each other's behavior. However, they acknowledge their unbeatable combat synergy, as separating them is necessary for their opponents to have a chance. They can even perform a formidable combination technique called Hakai. Kaido was upset when he sensed Big Mom's defeat, reflecting on the bond they formed during their time in the Rocks Pirates.

Donquixote Doflamingo

Kaido and Doflamingo had a business partnership where Doflamingo supplied Kaido with SMILE fruits in exchange for weapons. Kaido valued this partnership highly, investing significantly in making his crew the strongest Devil Fruit users. He mourned Doflamingo's defeat and the loss of the SMILE factory, showing emotional sorrow when he received the news.

Kaido would have killed Doflamingo if he had stopped producing SMILE, emphasizing the importance of their business relationship. When Doflamingo was captured by the Marines, Kaido ordered Jack to free him from the Marines' custody.

Family

Yamato

Still from the anime.

Yamato is Kaido's child, although their relationship is strained and complicated. Initially born as Kaido's daughter, Yamato identifies as a man and emulates Oden, Kaido's enemy, whom he idolizes. While Kaido refers to Yamato as his "son," he disapproves of Yamato's admiration for Oden.

Kaido has been cruel to Yamato since childhood, imprisoning him in a dark cave without food and subjecting him to beatings. He kept Yamato in precarious conditions with explosive handcuffs and hunger. Kaido's treatment of Yamato reflects his contradictory view of him. While he casually insults and mistreats him, Kaido also wishes for Yamato to participate in his events and even become the shogun of Wano, believing that Yamato will eventually follow his will.

Yamato, on the other hand, holds a low opinion of his father and sees him as an oppressor. He has attempted to rebel against Kaido and actively seeks to defeat him with the help of Monkey D. Luffy. Yamato disapproves of Kaido's plans for him to become the shogun and doesn't want to be his pawn like Orochi. After the explosive handcuffs incident, Yamato officially disowns Kaido as his parent and no longer addresses him as "father."

When they ambushed him during the Fire Festival, Kaido was shocked and impressed by their determination and strength. Despite his claims that they couldn't harm him, the Scabbards injured him and even struck him in the exact same spot that Oden had scarred him. Kaido ultimately defeated them but acknowledged their bravery and persistence.
