Early Life and Career
Jailton Jesus Almeida Júnior was born and still lives in the Brotas neighborhood of Salvador, Brazil. He initially wanted to become a soccer player but could not afford to join a club due to financial difficulties. He started training in boxing at the age of six and picked up Brazilian jiu-jitsu at 11. Eventually, he began training in mixed martial arts due to his jiu-jitsu training partners.
Almeida worked as a doorman and guard while pursuing his dream of becoming a fighter. Almeida had a tough childhood with divorced parents and 11 siblings, and his older brother went missing after getting involved with a criminal syndicate. He had a 13-2 record in the Brazilian regional circuit before winning the Thunder Fight title. He was then invited to compete in Dana White's Contender Series 39, where he won his bout via second-round submission and was awarded a UFC contract.
Jailton Almeida’s Career in UFC
Jailton Jesus Almeida Júnior was supposed to make his UFC debut against Danilo Marques on November 13, 2021, but the fight was postponed due to Marques' surgery and was rescheduled for February 5, 2022. Almeida won the fight by technical knockout in round one. In his next fight, he moved up to heavyweight to fight Parker Porter at UFC Fight Night 206 after Maxim Grishin pulled out due to undisclosed reasons.
He won the fight via rear-naked choke in round one. Almeida's next fight was against Anton Turkalj at a catchweight of 220 pounds on September 10, 2022, at UFC 279. He won the fight via rear-naked choke in the first round and received his first Performance of the Night bonus award. His scheduled fight against Shamil Abdurakhimov was rebooked multiple times, with Almeida ultimately winning via technical knockout in the second round at UFC 283. He received another Performance of the Night award for this win.
