Rise to Glory
Sayed Shirzad had already made his debut in the T20 International format of the game, however his spot in the national team became stable only after his performance in the 2018 Ghazi Amanullah Khan Regional One Day Tournament, where he took 12 wickets in 6 matches. Later that year, he was selected for Kandhar Knights team in the Afghanistan Premier League and became the leading wicket taker with 16 wickets in 8 matches of the tournament.
He was selected in both 2018 Asia Cup squad of Afghanistan as well as in the bilateral series against Ireland, but did not play in either of the series. He played his first match against Ireland in 2019, and was later selected in the Test team of Afghanistan as well. However, he didn't play a single match and was later added to the Afghan squad of 2019 Cricket World Cup.
He has also been selected for the one off Test match against Bangladesh to be held in September 2019.
After having made a debut in T20 Internationals, Sayed Shirzad lost his focus in the game and couldn't perform well enough to be in the team. However, after losing his spot he managed to regain a place in both ODI as well as Test squad of Afghanistan in a matter of 3 years.
Sayed Shirzad has played for two different clubs, that is Afghan Cheetahs in 2011-12 and Kandhar Knights in 2018-19. His performance in the Faysal Bank T20 Tournament in 2011 for Afghan Cheetahs was not worth mentioning, but he emerged as the highest wicket taker in the 2018 Afghanistan Premier League for Kandhar Knights.
