1. IPL 6: Knight Riders beat Royals by 8 wickets

Kolkata Knight Riders kept their hopes alive of qualifying for the playoffs with a convincing eight-wicket win over Rajasthan Royals in an Indian Premier League (IPL) match at the Eden Gardens here Friday.

2. Sindhu enters title round of Malaysia Open

Top seed P.V. Sindhu of India stormed into the Malaysia Open Grand Prix Gold final defeating Thailand’s Sapsiree Taerattanachai at the Juara Indoor Stadium here Friday.

3. Paul ejected as Clippers crash out to Grizzlies, OKC clinch series

Mike Conley and Zach Randolph scored 23 points each, and the Memphis Grizzlies beat the Los Angeles Clippers 118-105 to take the first-round series 4-2. Chris Paul had 28 points before being ejected with 2:29 left. Randolph was ejected, too, with 1:57 remaining.

The Oklahoma City Thunder closed out their first-round Western Conference series, 4-2, with the Houston Rockets with a 103-94 win. Kevin Durant scored 27 points to go with eight rebounds and six assists for OKC. James Harden led Houston with 26 points, seven assists and six rebounds.

4. Knicks hold off Celtics to advance, Pacers move on

The New York Knicks turned back a furious late charge by the Boston Celtics, holding on for an 88-80 victory to reach the second round of the NBA playoffs.

5. Ferrer in semi-finals, mourns ATP chief Drewett

Top seed David Ferrer reached the Portugal Open semi-finals on Friday before joining the tributes to ATP chief Brad Drewett who lost his brave battle against motor neurone disease.

6. Derrick Pereira to be new Salgaocar FC coach

51-year-old Derrick Pereira will become the new head coach of former I-League champions Salgaocar FC next season. This was confirmed by club secretary Raj Gomes to a news agency yesterday

7. Mickelson seizes PGA lead

Three-time Masters champion Phil Mickelson fired a five-under par 67 on Friday to seize a two-stroke lead after the second round of the $6.7 million US PGA Wells Fargo Championship.

US left-hander Mickelson, who opened with a 14-foot birdie putt on his way to back-to-back birdies, stood on nine-under 135 after 36 holes at Quail Hollow.

8. Loeb takes advantage of Ogier slip-up in Argentina

Sebastien Loeb of France took full advantage of a mistake by compatriot Sebastien Ogier to take the lead in the Rally of Argentina on Friday and stay on course to maintain his remarkable record in the event.

Loeb, in a Citroen, is racing a reduced programme this year but is still in sight of victory in a race he has won every year since 2005.
