One of the prominent athletes in Olympic history, Bonnie Blair, is a retired professional speed skater from America. Her accomplishments include winning the 1986 World Short Track Championship and nineteen medals in World Sprint events. Blair holds the record at the 1994 US Olympic long track trials of achieving in the 1000 and 500 m trials. At the 1994 Winter Olympics, she held a margin of 1.38 seconds in the 1000 m race, thus creating a history of the event. She won nine medals at the World Championships.

Turning pro in 1984, Blair won a bronze medal in the 1000 m category at the 1988 Olympic Games held in Calgary. She was selected as the flag bearer for America at the 1988 Olympics closing ceremony. Blair has received many awards, including the Oscar Mathisen Award and the Sullivan Award. She found her way into the Wisconsin Athletic Hall of Fame, the Chicagoland Sports Hall of Fame, and the United States Olympic Hall of Fame. Retiring from speed skating in 1995, Blair established a career as a motivational speaker.

Blair has won eight gold medals as of June 2025, including five Olympic and three World Championship gold medals. She won her maiden gold medal in the 500m at the 1988 Olympic Games in Calgary. Blair won the next two gold medals at the 1992 Albertville Olympics in the 500m and 1000m categories. Her final two gold medals came at the 1994 Lillehammer Olympics. Blair's next set of gold medals came at the World Championships held in 1989, 1994 and 1995. She claimed a World Championship medal in the sprint category.
