Carissa Moore is a powerhouse in surfing. She was born on August 27, 1992, in Oahu, Hawaii. and was introduced to the sport of surfing at the tender age of five by her father on the beaches of Waikiki in her native land, Honolulu, Hawaii. Since hopping on the surfboard, Moore has secured a plethora of accolades for herself. She was the first-ever winner of the Olympic gold medal in women’s shortboard surfing in 2020.

Moore blazed her way through the National Scholastic Surfing Association by bagging 11 NSSA amateur titles in the tournament over the course of four years. Additionally, in 2008, she etched her name in history books by becoming the youngest champion at a Triple Crown of Surfing event, the Reef Hawaiian Pro. Moreover, she is also a five-time World Champion (2011, 2013, 2015, 2019, and 2021) at the WSL Women’s World Tour Championship.

Notably, with her 2021 WSL win, she is the first surfer ever to earn a WSL world title and an Olympic title in the same year. The 31-year-old is renowned for being a role model for young girls, helping them develop the confidence to pursue their dreams.

Moore has also been awarded various titles by several organizations. She was named the Adventurer of the Year by National Geographic in 2012, Woman of the Year by Glamour Magazine in 2013, and was also named the Top Female Surfer in the SURFER Magazine poll (2011, 2015, 2016, and 2017).

In her honor, the State of Hawaii declared January 4 to be Carissa Moore Day. In January 2024, she announced her plans to retire after defending her Olympic title in Paris 2024.
