David Smith is a renowned American volleyball player who was born on May 15, 1985, in Panorama City, Los Angeles, and brought up in Saugus, California. He was born to American parents Rick and Nancy Smith. He and his wife, Kelli Smith, who is a professional marathoner, have two kids, a son named Cohen and a daughter named Amelia. He presently represents the United States national team and ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle as a middle blocker. He is well-known for his remarkable 140-inch spike and 136-inch block reaches.

Smith started his career with the University of California, Irvine, from 2004 to 2007 before moving on to several teams, including Ulster University (2007), TV Rottenburg (2008–2009), Caribes de San Sebastián (2009–2010), CV Almería (2010–2011), Tours VB (2011–2016), Czarni Radom (2016–2017), Warta Zawiercie (2017–2018) and Asseco Resovia (2018–2019).

At the 2024 Paris Olympics, he will represent the United States alongside Matt Anderson, Taylor Averill, Micah Christenson, T.J. DeFalco, Max Holt, Thomas Jaeschke, Jeff Jendryk, Micah Ma’a, Garrett Muagututia, Aaron Russell, and Erik Shoji.
