David Smith is an American professional volleyball player who plays in the middle blocker position for ZAKSA Kedzierzyn-Kozle and represents the U.S. national team globally. Born to Nancy and Rick Smith on May 15, 1985, Smith suffered from a hearing impairment since birth. The LA native does not let his hearing impairment hinder his athletic capabilities as he coordinates with his team members through hearing aids and lip reading.

Smith enrolled in Saugus High School in Santa Clarita. In 2004, Smith attended the University of California, Irvine. From 2004 to 2007, Smith played for the UC Irvine volleyball team. In 2007, along with his team members, Smith won the NCAA National Championship title for UC Irvine. In 2009, Smith represented the U.S . national team and was named the Best Blocker at the World Championship Qualifier.
