Maddie Musselman is a water polo athlete, recognized for her achievements at both the collegiate and International levels. A two-time Olympic Gold medalist from the 2016 and 2020 Olympic Games, Musselman is also a four-time All-American, from her career with the UCLA Bruins at UCLA. At the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics, Maddie was named MVP of women's water polo after leading her team to victory with an impressive contribution of 18 goals, making her one of the top scorers of the tournament. Her accolades extend beyond the Olympics; she played a key role in securing first-place finishes for Team USA at several major events including the 2023 World Aquatics World Cup in Long Beach, United States, and the 2022 FINA World Championships held in Budapest, Hungary.

She was named MVP of both the FINA World League Super Final (in 2019 and again in 2021) and the FINA World Championships (in 2017), where Team USA clinched gold medals under her stewardship. Patrick Woepse's Early Life

Patrick Woepse was born on August 10, 1993, in Orange, California to Gregory and Sharon Woepse. He attended Mater Dei High School where he excelled as a varsity water polo athlete, earning letters for three consecutive years from 2009 to 2011.

Patrick competed with the Regency Water Polo Club and secured victory at the U.S. Club Championships in 2011 as part of the UCLA Bruins team.

In 2012, Patrick enrolled at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), joining their water polo team while redshirting his first year. Beginning in his freshman year in 2013, he saw action in five matches and continued to be an integral part of the UCLA Bruins water polo team until his graduation in 2016.

Throughout his collegiate athletic career, Patrick participated in a total of 57 games. Notably, he contributed to the team's national championship victories in both 2014 and 2015.

Patrick Woepse was born to Gregory and Sharon Woepse. Gregory Woepse is especially notable for winning the silver medal in pole vaulting at the 1979 Pan American Games.

He has two older brothers, Gregory and Michael, and one older sister named Elizabeth. Elizabeth competed in pole vaulting for the Bruin women’s team from 2005 to 2008. His brother Gregory clinched the Pac-10 pole-vaulting championship title for UCLA in 2011. Maddie Musselman and Patrick Woepse first met in January 2022, at the wedding of Kodi Hill, a teammate of Musselman's at UCLA, and Ryder Roberts, a fellow water polo player with Woepse from the Bruins. Following the event, Woepse got Maddie's contact number from Hill. When he attempted to call her initially, his call went unanswered as she did not recognize the number. But later she called him back.

Their relationship flourished quickly due to their mutual interest in the Catholic faith.

Patrick Woepse's love for travel saw him accompany Madie Musselman to Hungary for the 2022 World Championships. After the U.S.'s victory in securing the title, they extended their stay in Europe for a vacation. Their adventures also took them to Japan after last year’s championships in Fukuoka.

In June of that year on Newport Beach, Patrick proposed to Maddie. By August they had moved in together and opted for a wedding in September 2023.

Patrick Woepse has been battling with a diagnosis of lung cancer. A persistent cough, which began during his time in Japan and continued after he moved in with Maddie, was ultimately identified as a symptom of an aggressive form of lung cancer. On October 8, 2023, Maddie took to Instagram to publicly share news of her husband's condition, expressing unwavering support and love for him. Despite suffering from stage 4 lung cancer, he has visited Paris to cheer his wife during her Olympic performance.
