Markus Edegran is an American sailor, born on September 22, 1993. He was born in Mount Kisco, New York, and hails from West Palm Beach, FL. Markus began sailing at the age of 8 and started racing at the age of 10. He started Kitefoil racing in 2018. He also sailed at St. Mary's College of Maryland. Before attending the Navy, Markus graduated from Hackley School in Tarrytown, N.Y., in 2011. He was on the varsity soccer and squash teams and sailed Optimists, c420s, and i420s. He finished second at the 2009 c420 Nationals and first at the 2010 c420 Team Race Nationals.

As a freshman, Markus participated in 12 sailing events at Navy, competing as a skipper in fleet races and on the 'A' team race team. He sailed in the A division at the ICSA National Semi-Finals and Nationals in Austin, Texas. Some of his achievements include winning the ODU Spring Open, winning the Tom Noble Team Race, and finishing ninth in a tough A division at the National Semi-Finals. Markus sailed 49ers, GC32s, Waszps, and M32s. He was selected as a bowman on the AC45 for the 2017 Red Bull Youth America’s Cup Team. In 2018, he started Kitefoil racing and was committed to the discipline in 2019 with the goal of qualifying for the Paris 2024 Games. In his first year, he became the top US Kitefoiler and finished 6th at the 2020 Hydrofoil Pro Tour. His achievements in the Formula Kite class include winning domestic titles at the US Open Sailing Series and Kitefoil League. On the international stage, Markus placed 15th at the 2021 Formula Kite World Championships in Torregrande, Sardinia, Italy, and this performance got him a spot on the US Sailing Team.

​Lukas Edegran is Markus Edegran's older brother. He grew up in Ossining, NY, and graduated from Hackley School in 2009. Before joining the Navy, Lukas sailed Optis and 420s. He majored in Systems Engineering. In his junior year, Lukas participated in seven events, serving both as a skipper in coed and team racing, as well as a heavy air crew. His achievements include winning the Arrigan Memorial Regatta as the A division skipper and the Tom Noble Team Race. As a sophomore, Lukas competed in 11 events, taking on roles as a skipper and a heavy air crew. His recorded achievements include a 3rd place finish in the B division at the Owen Trophy, hosted by the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, where he served as a skipper in a 16-team event. He also won the B division as a heavy air crew at the competitive Truxtun Umsted Regatta, hosted by the Academy. Additionally, he competed as a heavy air crew at the Coed Dinghy Nationals.

During his freshman year at the Academy, Lukas participated in eight events as both a skipper and a heavy air crew. His top accomplishments include winning the New York Maritime Open as the A division skipper and finishing 3rd in the A division at the SAISA/MAISA. Lukas was a member of the intercollegiate sailing team at Navy and graduated in 2013.
