Payton Otterdahl, an American shot putter, was born on April 2, 1996. Hailing from Rosemount, Minnesota, Payton Otterdahl attended Rosemount High School. Post his high school graduation, Otterdahl attended college at North Dakota State University from 2014- 2018. Under the robust coaching of Justin StClair, Otterdahl competed in the 2020 Summer Olympics.

In the NCAA Championship Otterdahl became the 2nd man ever to win the shot put and weight throw. Otterdahl at the age of 23, emerged with the 2nd world best measures where his personal best was 21.81 m in the winter of 2019. He was in the world's top lists IAAF and secured 25th place in the new IAAF World Rankings.

He wasn't more focused on throwing early on, but under Coach Tim Conboy, Rosemount High School’s throws coach pushed Payton on throws, who then had early success with the Irish. Payton, in class 2A, 2014, swept boy's state track and field throwing titles as a senior.
