Born on September 14, 1999, Tom Schaar is one of the renowned names in the American skateboarding community. Schaar's journey began at a young age. At just 12 years old, he landed the first-ever 1080. An accomplishment that was previously deemed the ‘Holy Grail of skateboarding tricks’. This historic moment took place in March 2012 after only four unsuccessful attempts on a mega ramp.

Schaar landed the 1080 in competition at the 2012 Asia X Games in Shanghai where he won skate Mini Mega. This victory made him the youngest X Games gold medalist. He has the titles of youngest Dew Tour Champion, youngest Vans Pool Party champion, and youngest Austin X Games gold medallist in "Big Air." Schaar had amassed nine X Games medals by the time he turned 18. He earned him a spot in Forbes Magazine's 2020 30 Under 30 Sports category, highlighting the next generation of sports talent. Before his historic 1080, Schaar became the eighth person ever to land a 900 on a skateboard in October 2011. He again became the first person to land a Stalefish 900 in September 2016.

Schaar was named to the first-ever U.S.A. Skateboarding National Team on March 20, 2019. He was inspired by legendary skateboarder and snowboarder Shaun White, who had attempted the 1080 multiple times in 2005 and 2006 without success.
