3 reasons why The Fiend vs Daniel Bryan for the Universal Championship is best for business and 2 reasons why it isn't

It’s official. Daniel Bryan will challenge The Fiend for the Universal Championship at Survivor Series. The match was already being teased by WWE and was almost confirmed when The Fiend attacked Bryan backstage last week.

On the latest episode of SmackDown, Wyatt asked Bryan to allow The Fiend to “play” with him once again as he did last week. But the former WWE Champion asked Wyatt to put his Universal Title on the line at Survivor Series, and he agreed.

Now, both Superstars will face each other at the pay-per-view and the fans are happy about it. WWE has done a lot to hype Survivor Series with the involvement of NXT wrestlers and now, this match has made us more excited for the upcoming event.

However, there are a few reasons why WWE was right to book Daniel Bryan vs The Fiend at Survivor Series and why they weren’t. In this article, we will discuss them. Also, as always, feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section below.

#5 Why it’s best for business: Huge victory for The Fiend

The Fiend hasn't wrestled a lot of matches on WWE Television

Daniel Bryan is a huge Superstar in WWE. He retired a few years ago but made his return to the ring once again at WrestleMania 33, where teamed up with Shane McMahon to face Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn in a tag team match.

On the other hand, Bray Wyatt has recently rebuilt his character as The Fiend and now has become the hottest thing in WWE. This means, that he probably won’t lose his match anytime soon.

Bryan has already put over many Superstars in WWE, so far, and it wouldn’t surprise us at all if he agrees to lose against Wyatt at Survivor Series. So far, The Fiend has only fought 3 matches in WWE and a victory against Bryan can do wonders for his character.

#4 Why it isn't best for business: It is for the Universal Championship

Bryan got a title match the moment he asked for it
Bryan got a title match the moment he asked for it

Even though Bryan is an ideal choice to challenge The Fiend for the Universal Championship at Survivor Series, he hasn’t done anything to receive a title match. He just asked for a title match from Bray Wyatt and he agreed. In WWE, talents often have to prove themselves to challenge for a title but in this week’s SmackDown, Bryan didn’t do anything like that.

Both Superstars can produce an instant classic but the fact that it is a championship match doesn’t do justice to those Superstars who haven’t receive a single title shot despite proving their worth many times over.

On the other hand, WWE did right by booking Rey Mysterio vs Brock Lesnar for the WWE Championship at Survivor Series. Lesnar had attacked Mysterio’s son, Dominick, on RAW a few weeks ago and since then, The Master of 619 has been in a rivalry with The Beast, which makes him eligible to challenge for his title. Coming off their builds, RAW clearly has the better story going into their big title match.

#3 Why it’s best for business: A perfect end to their feud

Bray Wyatt and Daniel Bryan first feuded with each other 6 years ago. Back then, Wyatt was still new to the company and at one point, Bryan was also a member of The Wyatt Family. Their feud ended with Wyatt winning it and since then, both stars have gone on with some major transitions in WWE.

Things aren’t the same anymore. The YES Movement doesn’t exist anymore, and neither does The Wyatt Family. Bryan is not a face, whereas Wyatt isn’t a heel but more like a tweener.

We haven’t seen these two Superstars feuding with each other in a long time but it’ll be great to witness them tussling it out at Survivor Series. This match could also change the course of Bryan’s character in WWE.

Clearly, Bray Wyatt is still upset about Daniel Bryan stabbing the Wyatt Family in the back all those years ago. And judging from how the Fiend treated Seth Rollins, Bryan may be in for some serious punishment come Survivor Series.

#2 Why it isn't best for business: Their feud won’t reach its full potential

Daniel Bryan vs The Fiend is a dream feud for any WWE fan. However, we feel that WWE has done things in a hurry and they should’ve waited a few more weeks for Bryan vs Wyatt.

Both Superstars are working as heels in WWE right now, and even though a Daniel Bryan face turn in future is possible, there’s still some time left to it. WWE could have done a lot of things as a build-up to this rivalry, but they are missing the opportunity because this match will take place on November 24. They haven’t got enough time to get the fans excited for his feud and we feel that they should do more work on it.

We can't do anything about this now but if WWE still wants to provide fans an unforgettable experience, they should keep these two Superstars in a rivalry for the next few months. It'll give them enough time to do some build-up for it.

#1 Why it’s best for business: It’ll allow Daniel Bryan to return as a much bigger Superstar

If winning against Daniel Bryan will benefit The Fiend then it’ll hurt Bryan. Bray Wyatt has a different character than the rest of the WWE roster and he doesn’t win his matches like others.

Whenever he wrestles, the environment in the arena suddenly changes. His spine-chilling segments where he attacks a Superstar is what keeps his character interesting. Wyatt will certainly win clean against Bryan at Survivor Series because WWE doesn’t have to protect the former WWE Champion as he isn’t in a massive storyline.

However, this will severely hurt Bryan’s gimmick in WWE as long as there isn’t a reason behind it. For instance, WWE can book him to lose against The Fiend at Survivor Series and then use it to return as a different Daniel Bryan.

Finn Balor has already done it. He lost to The Fiend at Summerslam and then went on a hiatus and since returning, he has seemingly become the face of NXT. If WWE can reproduce something similar, then it’ll not harm Bryan’s character despite losing to Wyatt at Survivor Series. Could this lead to the return of The YES Movement? We hope so.
