Rey Mysterio, born Oscar Gutierrez, is a Mexican-American professional wrestler who is best known for his time in World Championship Wrestling (WCW) and World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). Earning the nickname "The Master of the 619" for his signature finishing move, Mysterio is celebrated as one of the greatest luchadors (a Mexican masked wrestler) and high-flyers in wrestling history.


Throughout his career, Mysterio held a total of 25 championships between WWE and WCW, including three world championships. He is also recognized as a Grand Slam champion in WWE and won the 2006 Royal Rumble match. Inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2023, Mysterio is one of the few names who have been inducted while still actively wrestling. Rey Mysterio, whose real name is Óscar Gutiérrez, was born on December 11, 1974, in Chula Vista, California, United States. He grew up in a family of wrestlers, with his uncle, Rey Misterio Sr., being a famous luchador in Mexico. Mysterio was exposed to wrestling from a young age and became interested in pursuing it as a career.


Mysterio attended Montgomery High School in San Diego, California, where he was an accomplished amateur wrestler. In May 2019, Mysterio suffered an injury during a match with Samoa Joe, which forced him to vacate the United States Championship. In 2020, Mysterio continued to wrestle on SmackDown, including a feud with Seth Rollins and his disciples in the "Monday Night Messiah" storyline. Mysterio and Dominik also won the SmackDown Tag Team Championship, becoming the first father-son duo to hold the title in WWE before his son turned on him at SummerSlam 2022. Mysterio has since continued to perform on SmackDown, competing in high-profile matches and feuds. In 2023, he was announced as an inductee in the WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2023. On the road to WrestleMania 39, Dominik, who had now joined The Judgment Day challenged his father for a match at the event, which Mysterio was initially reluctant to partake in.

However, as time went on and his son did not back out from the challenge, Mysterio finally accepted and beat his son at WrestleMania Hollywood. He then worked on leading the reformed Latino World Order which also included Bad Bunny, Santos Escobar, Zelina Vega, and other members of the Legado Del Fantasma. On the 11 August, 2023 episode of SmackDown, Escobar earned the shot against Austin Theory's United States Championship. However, he could not compete in the match and was replaced by Rey Mysterio. The Legendary Luchador went on to beat Theory and win the United States Championship for the third time in his career. He then defended his gold against Austin Theory at Payback 2023 in a winning effort.


During his reign, Mysterio also defended his title against stablemate Santos Escobar who wanted to challenge for the gold once. At Fastlane 2023, Mysterio and Escobar teamed up with a returning Carlito to defeat Street Profits and Bobby Lashley. On the October 20 episode of SmackDown, Logan Paul returned to WWE and vowed to win a title, challenging Rey Mysterio for the US Championship. A match was then booked between the two superstars for Crown Jewel. At the event, Paul used brass knuckles to defeat Mysterio and end his reign at 85 days.


The following SmackDown, Carlito blamed Santos Escobar for this loss leading to a breakout between the faction. Later that night, Carlito lost a match to Lashley and Escobar led a surprise attack on Mysterio. Mysterio then underwent a knee surgery and was announced to be out of action for at least six weeks.
