Of course, the highlight of the Royal Rumble PPV is the over-the-top-rope battle royal, where the winner gets a shot at a title at WrestleMania.

Let's take a look at 4 Royal Rumble rumors of the week that you should know:

#1 Edge spotted at recent shows

The Royal Rumble always throws up surprises when it comes to legends and Hall of Famers returning to the ring for one night only, to take part in the Royal Rumble match. This year's show is no different, and there have already been several rumors that WWE Hall of Famer Edge, could return to WWE, and battle it out in the ring.

PWInsider reported this week that Edge has been spotted in recent WWE TV tapings, which has sparked rumors that he could be one of the 30 men in the men's Royal Rumble match.

This past week, there were reports that Edge would face off against Brock Lesnar, but Dave Meltzer has claimed that it is not going to happen.

Edge retired in 2011 due to serious neck and back injuries, and the prognosis was that he could never wrestle again. But, that could have changed over the last few years. The Rated-R Superstar teased a return when he said he could have one more match:

“To be perfectly honest, I think I could do a match tomorrow. I might be blown up but I’d be okay. It’s just from what I know with the WWE medical staff, they won’t allow. It is what it is, right?”

But, he has denied time and again that he has been cleared to wrestle.

#2 Paige to return

Another former Superstar who has retired due to serious injuries, but could potentially make a return is Paige. The WWE Backstage analyst retired from in-ring competition in 2018, but has been involved with WWE one way or another.

The rumors of her return to the ring - and the women's Royal Rumble match - stemmed from her recent tweets, where she said this: “I have a whole a lot of career left in me. 2020 will be a good year for me.”

While she is probably alluding to her career behind the microphone as an analyst for FOX, could there also be a possibility of her returning to the ring? Never say never in WWE! Daniel Bryan's return from injury could have given hope for other Superstars who have suffered nasty, career-ending injuries.

This would be a return that would get a huge pop from the crowd if it does happen.

The last few years have seen NXT Superstars feature in the men's and women's Royal Rumble match, and this year could see a lot more Superstars from the black-and-gold brand.

If Survivor Series is any indication, NXT Superstars would play a big part in the show.

WWE on FOX's Twitter page have teased several Superstars who could be a part of the men's Royal Rumble match. A tweet to promote and keep fans engaged for Royal Rumble had several NXT Superstars in it, which included the likes of Tommaso Ciampa, Johnny Gargano, Keith Lee, Matt Riddle, Finn Balor, Kyle O’Reilly, Walter, Pete Dunne, and Tyler Breeze.

While WWE haven't yet announced any of these Superstars to be a part of the Royal Rumble match, fan interest in the competition could perhaps help decide those that the WWE Universe wants in the match.

#4 News on Brock Lesnar backstage

One of the most surprising bits of news that came out of WWE this week was about Brock Lesnar entering the Royal Rumble match. Not only that, the WWE Champion will be entering first in the Royal Rumble match.

It will be interesting to see where WWE goes with this as champions usually do not enter the Royal Rumble match.

According to WrestleVotes, WWE have added Lesnar to the match to set up his WrestleMania 36 match, later this year.

The report also said that this could possibly mean that a Superstar from NXT or SmackDown could face off against The Beast at The Show of Shows in April.

This is a smart move by WWE as there will already be a lot of eyeballs on the Royal Rumble match, and will keep fans invested in Lesnar's potential match for WrestleMania.
