Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun season 2 episode 17, titled Aoi and Akane, opens with Hanako arriving to save Nene from the villagers. Sumire watches things unfold from a distance. Suddenly, black smoke engulfs the villagers, turning them into skeletons. The cliff beneath them gives way. As Hanako struggles to keep hold of Nene, Sumire jumps, saying she’ll end everything.

Hanako and Nene then wake up back in the forest where their journey began after falling into the pit. Sumire explains that "this world" has reset. She reveals that she’s the Sixth’s Yorishiro, and this place is her prison. Time here runs backward, forcing her to relive her death endlessly. She once hoped the Sixth cared for her and would visit someday, but she’s realized she was only fooling herself.

Tired of the cycle, she asks them to remove her talisman. Nene refuses, wanting to save her. She also realizes that Aoi is in a similar situation to Sumire and that there must be another solution to save them both. Hanako is initially hesitant, but eventually agrees with Nene’s plan and summons the elevator to escape.

The story shifts to Akane and Aoi. Aoi tends to Akane’s wound, but doesn't understand why he liked her. She feels that she doesn’t truly belong, and that everyone, even Akane, hides things from her. Akane surprisingly admits that he hates her selfish, cowardly side, but he still loves her regardless. She’s moved, and her reaction hints that she also likes him.

Just as they’re about to kiss, Teru arrives and interrupts the moment. He came to rescue them after figuring out that they may be in danger. He warns that they’re too close to the far shore and should leave soon. As they search for an exit, an apparition attacks, but Teru defeats it. He warns them of the area’s dangers and gives Aoi a protective charm.

As he learns more about the situation, he reveals that the school was built on a tiny village (Sumire’s village), where girls from the Akane family were raised as sacrifices. The Sixth served as their guards. Even as a Wonder, he’s carrying out the same duty.

The Seven Wonders are protecting the school, but Teru warns Akane to be wary of Hanako, as he’s taking the Wonders’ authority and is likely to go after the remaining ones’ power.

When they finally return to the school, they notice that Aoi didn’t make it back. Nene’s group also returns. Haku-joudai informs Hanako about Aoi. He knew Aoi, a normal human with no spiritual powers, couldn’t survive after going that close to the far shore. He believes that her sacrifice transferred her lifespan to Nene, solving her short lifespan problem.

Since Aoi wanted to go to the other side, he sees it as a "win-win." With that resolved, Hanako prepares to say goodbye to Nene. The episode ends on a tense note as he admits he’ll miss her as a crack appears on his face.
