The Detroit Tigers are amongst the oldest Major League Baseball (MLB) teams of the present times. First formed in 1894, they were one of the members of the Western League. The team officially became a member of the American League (AL) in 1901 and represented the AL East Division from 1969 to 1997 before becoming a member of the AL Central Division in 1998. The Detroit Tigers have also won four World Series Championships in their career so far.
