Born on March 22, 1994, Edwin Díaz plays baseball as a pitcher for the New York Mets in Major League Baseball (MLB). Díaz was raised in the Puerto Rican community of Naguabo. Díaz played outfield with players like Carlos Correa and José Berríos while growing up in Puerto Rico. As a teenager, he grudgingly gave pitching a try at his father's encouragement. Díaz was selected by the Seattle Mariners in the third round of the 2012 MLB draft. He had a 5.21 earned run average (ERA) and a 2–1 record in nine games (one start), striking out 20 batters in 19 innings. He made his Major League debut on June 6, 2016.
