Born March 1, 2002, Waldrep has played the game since he was six years old. He attended Thomasville High School in Thomasville, Georgia where he played on their baseball team as a pitcher and on their football team as a kicker and punter.

Waldrep enrolled at the University of Southern Mississippi to play college baseball after missing out on the shortened 2020 Major League Baseball draft. He later transferred to the University of Florida where he is also currently majoring in education sciences and playing for the Florida Gators.

Waldrep entered the 2023 season as a top prospect for the upcoming MLB draft with many certain that he will be a first-round pick.
