Spencer Robert Strider is a professional baseball player who plays for the Atlanta Braves in Major League Baseball (MLB). In the 2020 MLB Draft, Strider was picked by the Atlanta Braves in the 4th round and became the 126th overall pick. On the 2024 Opening Day, Spencer Strider began the season as the starter for the Atlanta Braves, replacing Max Fried in the role. He couldn't make a second appearance in Atlanta's home opener, due to an elbow injury. Reports showed damage to the ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) in his right elbow, and Strider had to go through surgery that kept him out for the rest of the season. Following a year-long rehabilitation, Strider returned on April 16, 2025, against the Toronto Blue Jays. Although the Braves lost 3–1, he pitched five innings with five strikeouts. In that game, he achieved a milestone in his career by registering his 500th strikeout, becoming one of the fastest MLB primary starters to reach the milestone, in 334 innings, breaking the previous record held by Freddy Peralta of 372 innings.
