Born on July 13, 1994, he went to South Hills High School in West Covina, California and played college baseball at San Diego State University between 2013 and 2015. He was the 1017th overall selection in the 2015 MLB draft by the San Diego Padres.
A one-time All-Star, France made his professional debut with Minor League Baseball team Tri-City Dust Devils in 2015. He spent the next few years at a host of minor league teams of the San Diego Padres. He made his MLB debut on April 26, 2019, playing for the Padres. He was traded to the Seattle Mariners in 2020 and was later traded to the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for Andruw Salcedo in 2024.
