Max Johnson is an American college football quarterback who most recently signed for the North Carolina Tar Heels. He started his high school career at the Oconee County High School where he was named the Georgia Offensive Player of the Year in his senior season. He also led the school to the Georgia 4A state title. He was a consensus four-star recruit in the class of 2020 and was ranked the 11th best in his position in the state of Georgia. Johnson threw for 5,140 yards and 47 passing yards during his years of varsity.

Coming out of Oconee County as a four-star prospect, Johnson signed with LSU Tigers over offers from Florida State, Georgia, Miami, Michigan State, and South Carolina among others. In his freshman year, he appeared in six games while connecting on 88 out of 150 passes for 1,069 yards and eight touchdowns in 2020. Johnson entered the transfer portal in 2021 to join his brother, Jake Johnson at Texas A&M University. His debut campaign was cut short after he redshirted his junior campaign with a hand injury. The following season, the Athens native saw action in eight games with five starts but suffered a rib injury during A&M’s loss to Ole Miss in 2023.

Johnson enjoyed four fruitful seasons with LSU & Texas A&M and threw for 5,853 yards with 47 touchdowns against 12 receptions. Max Johnson has decided to enter the NCAA transfer portal for the second time and commit to North Carolina as a graduate transfer in the 2024 season.
