Kieron Pollard is one of the most prolific all-rounders to play for the Windies. However, his act of a deliberate short-run gained immense criticism in the 2017 edition of the Indian premier league.

The incident took place in a must-win game against the Kings XI Punjab. The Mumbai Indians all-rounder was the last hope of victory for his side. In the final over of the game, Mumbai Indians needed 16 runs to win the thrilling encounter.

Mohit Sharma steamed in to bowl the final over for his side. On the very first ball of the over, Pollard could not connect his big shot and managed to find Maxwell in the deep. However, the former had to ensure he gets the strike back. In order to accomplish the same, he deliberately ran the first run short and managed to retain the strike.

The umpires did not find the event as a deliberate short run and hence no penalty runs were awarded to the fielding side. Eventually, the Kings XI Punjab won the game despite all the tactics applied by the Mumbai Indians.
