#2 Ajinkya Rahane’s masterful 103* powers Rajasthan to an easy win – 2012

Rahane scored a fantastic hundred

Rahul Dravid won the toss and elected to bat first on a batting pitch. He opened the innings with Ajinkya Rahane and got the team off to a slow but steady start.

Dravid was stumped for 25 of the bowling of Dan Vettori in the 11th over and Rajasthan Royals were 62/1.

Owais Shah walked out to the crease to partner Rahane and what followed next was some brilliant hitting by both the batsman.

Shah smashed Chris Gayle for two sixes and a boundary in the 16th over and followed it up by three sixes and a four of Vinay Kumar in the 17th over. Shah reached his 50 in 19 balls, which was his fastest in his IPL career.

Rahane paced his innings beautifully. His innings comprised of orthodox cricketing shots. He first hit Sreenath Aravind for six fours in the 15th over and then followed it up a Six and a Four of Muttiah Muralitharan in the 18th over, taking his personal score to 92 off 54 balls.

The pair added 121 runs for the second wicket in just 50 balls. Rahane completed his century in the last over by smashing a boundary of Vinay Kumar.

Rajasthan Royals posted a competitive total of 195/2 in their 20 overs.

In reply, RCB got off to a quick start thanks to some attacking stroke-play by Mayank Agarwal.

But this didn’t last long as he and Chris Gayle were dismissed by Pankaj Singh in the fifth over.

Virat Kohli stroked a couple of boundaries before he was bowled by Siddarth Trivedi. The medium pacer further picked up the wickets of AB De Villiers, Saurabh Tiwary and Daniel Vettori to end up with figures of 4-25 in his four overs.

In the end, RCB were all out for 136 in the last over, handing over a 59-run win for Rajasthan Royals.

For his magnificent 103* of 60 deliveries, Rahane was awarded Man of the Match.
