Time to say goodbye?

The Indian Premier League has seen a lot of legends play in it. While a lot of them have retired, a few are still trying to make an impact.

In an attempt to show that they can still do it on the big stage, they are tarnishing their own legacy. These players need to step aside and give the young talent a chance to shine in the IPL.

Here are 5 players who should retire from IPL:

#5 Yuvraj Singh

The golden boy for a generation, Yuvraj Singh is just not able to perform the way he wants to these days. The southpaw was one of the deadliest strikers of the ball during his day, and bowlers had a nightmare when he was at the crease. He's averaging 12 and has a strike rate of 91 – something we did not even expect from him in Test cricket.

Even in the field, he and Mohamed Kaif were the ones who inspired the current crop of Indian players to dive around and pull off stunning catches. But those days are gone and Yuvraj is unable to cling on to catches that come straight at him.

He's back with his 'home franchise' this season and should consider quitting the IPL on a high. He might be released at the end of the season and going into the auction next year would not be a good option. For a player who has fetched a large amount of money during an auction, it'll be an all-time low to go unsold.

#4 Kieron Pollard

Mumbai Indians v Highveld Lions - 2010 Champions League Twenty20
Kieron Pollard

Just like Yuvraj Singh, Kieron Pollard is one of the best T20 players of all time. The West Indian all-rounder has not been on top of his game in recent times. His reached his peak 2 years back and is now on a steady decline.

It was a surprise that Mumbai Indians decided to use the RTM on him as he was going to Delhi Daredevils for Rs 5.4 crores. He has not justified the price one bit and DD will be happy that Mumbai signed him.

Pollard is just 31 years old but the IPL is not suited for him anymore. He's not been able to run around and field like he used to before nor he bowled a single over even when MI were in trouble.

#3 Vinay Kumar

Over up!
Over up!

Vinay Kumar has been consistently inconsistent in the IPL but still has managed to find a team every single season. The 34-year-old is one of the best in domestic cricket but gets torn apart in IPL.

He was trolled a lot for his dubious last over vs Chennai Super Kings this season. He conceded 17 runs with Dwayne Bravo and Ravindra Jadeja at the crease, resulting in his side losing the game.

It's about time that he realised it's not worth the effort in the IPL, and starts concentrating solely onon the domestic tournaments. He can excel there and it would be the best way to end his career.

#2 Brendon McCullum

Kolkata Knight Riders v Mumbai Indians - IPL
Brendon McCullum

When Chennai Super Kings decided not to retain or use the RTM on Brendon McCullum, everyone was caught surprised. The New Zealand batsman was one of their best openers in the IPL and letting him go was deemed a big mistake by a large number of fans.

Little did they know that the batsman who once tormented the bowlers had lost his touch. He has not been able to cement his place in the RCB starting XI and has been dropped in place of Moeen Ali.

He has an average of 21.16 this season in the 6 matches he has played. And despite being one of the best in history at hitting sixes, he's hit just 6 sixes this season.

#1 Gautham Gambhir

Rajasthan Royals v Delhi Daredevils - IPL T20 cricket
Gautam Gambhir

The last year has been a roller coaster one for Gambhir. He impressed at Kolkata Knight Riders last season and got a dream return to his home franchise this year.

But that dream turned into a nightmare as he was not able to perform well and that made him step down as the captain of the team. He's since then been dropped from the starting XI with Prithvi Shaw replacing him at the top of the order.

He's lost his touch and needs to concentrate on his domestic career. He's one of the best batsmen India has seen and it would be a sad for him to prolong his IPL career and end it on a bad note.
