The slow left-arm orthodox bowler from Goa was signed by the Chennai Super Kings ahead of the inaugural edition of the IPL in 2008. Unfortunately, he did not get an opportunity to don the Yellow jersey for the entire duration of season one in which the MS Dhoni-led side finished as runner-up to the Rajasthan Royals.

In the next edition at South Africa, Jakati was immensely successful on seamer-friendly conditions scalping 13 wickets in just 9 matches at an economy of 7.48, with his best figures being 4/22.

He followed it up with another exceptional display of spin in the title-winning 2010 edition of the IPL, picking up 13 wickets in 11 matches. Overall, the man who remained a trustworthy spinner for CSK, took 45 wickets in 50 matches during his stint, apart from winning two IPL titles (2010 and 2011).

At the 2014 IPL auction, Jakati was bought by the Royal Challengers Bangalore for INR 20 lakhs but he went wicketless in the only match played throughout that season. After going unsold at the 2015 auction, he was bought by the now-defunct Gujarat Lions for INR 20 lakhs. He managed just 6 wickets in that season and failed to pick one in the next edition before going unsold at the 2018 auction.
