The 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) concluded on Tuesday, June 3, after two months of intense competition. Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) secured their maiden title by defeating Punjab Kings (PBKS) by six runs in a thrilling final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Rajat Patidar became the first Royal Challengers captain to lead the team to glory, achieving this feat in his debut season as skipper. On the other hand, Shreyas Iyer, despite his commendable leadership, couldn't guide the Kings to their maiden title.
The edition witnessed numerous records being shattered, with players and teams achieving significant milestones throughout the season. Notably, several unprecedented feats were accomplished for the first time in the tournament's history.
On that note, in this article, we highlight five unique 'firsts' that defined IPL 2025.
5 unique firsts that were achieved in IPL 2025
#1 First instance of the 200-run mark being surpassed 50 times in a single season
The 2025 IPL season set a new record with the 200-run mark being surpassed 52 times, the highest in a single edition, eclipsing the previous record of 41 in IPL 2024. Punjab Kings and Gujarat Titans led the charts with eight 200-plus totals each, while Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals recorded the fewest, each achieving this feat three times.
#2 First time a franchise secured victories in all away matches in its 18-year history
Royal Challengers Bengaluru achieved a historic milestone in IPL 2025 by winning all their away matches during the league stage. This remarkable feat made them the first team in the 18-year history of the IPL to accomplish such a record. Under the leadership of Rajat Patidar, RCB not only secured victories across various venues but also ended long-standing winless streaks at iconic stadiums.
They clinched their first-ever win at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium (Chepauk) in 17 years, at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai after a decade, and at Eden Gardens in Kolkata following a six-year gap. This unprecedented away performance was a key factor in RCB's journey to their maiden IPL title.
#3 First occurrence of three players from the same team scoring over 500 runs in a single IPL season
In IPL 2025, the Gujarat Titans achieved a historic feat by having three players each surpass the 500-run mark in a single season. Opening batter Sai Sudharsan led the charge with 759 runs in 15 innings, averaging 54.21 and boasting a strike rate of 156.17, including six fifties and one hundred, earning him the Orange Cap.

In IPL 2025, Royal Challengers Bengaluru achieved a remarkable milestone by having 10 different players score half-centuries in a single season—the highest by any team in T20 tournament history. Virat Kohli led the charge with eight half-centuries, while Phil Salt contributed four.
Captain Rajat Patidar and Devdutt Padikkal each added two, and Jitesh Sharma, Krunal Pandya, Tim David, Romario Shepherd, Jacob Bethell, and Liam Livingstone each chipped in with one. This remarkable feat highlighted RCB's depth and consistency in their batting lineup throughout the season.
#5 First instance of a non-opener scoring over 700 runs in a single season
Suryakumar Yadav set a new benchmark in IPL 2025 by amassing 717 runs in 16 innings at an average of 65.18 and a strike rate of 167.91, including five half-centuries. This remarkable feat made him the highest run-scorer for the Mumbai Indians in a single IPL season, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar's record of 618 runs set in 2010.
