What’s the story?
IPL 2017 is almost upon us and for fans of Delhi Daredevils who were eagerly awaiting the team’s jersey for the tournament, the wait is finally over. During the team’s first press conference ahead of the tenth edition of the tournament, which featured Zaheer Khan, Pat Cummins and Kagiso Rabada, the jersey for IPL 2017 was also launched.

In case you didn’t know…
DD were one of the busiest teams during IPL Auction 2017, where they made some addition in a bid to make wholesale changes to the side that finished IPL 2016 in sixth. Aside from the additions of quality fast bowlers in Cummins and Rabada, they also added to their all-rounders ranks with the signing of Corey Anderson and Angelo Mathews.
The Details
Despite an impressive IPL Auction, DD were dealt a huge blow ahead of IPL 2017 as the experienced South African duo of Quinton de Kock and JP Duminy both confirmed that they won’t take part in the tournament. The South African keeper withdrew due to a finger injury while the all-rounder cited personal reasons behind his decision to not take part in the 10th edition of the tournament.
However, they did receive some good news as well, as Zaheer Khan who captained the side in IPL 2016, will be back for the tenth edition of the tournament. They also got the good news that Indian internationals Mohammed Shami and Amit Mishra will both be available for the entire tournament.
Despite losing JP Duminy, the side is filled with plenty of quality all-rounders in Corey Anderson, Angelo Mathews, Chris Morris and Carlos Brathwaite. They also have world-class international fast bowlers in Pat Cummins and Kagiso Rabada.

What’s next?
Delhi Daredevils just finished outside the playoff spot in IPL 2016 and will be looking to improve in IPL 2017. They begin their campaign with an away game against Royal Challengers Bangalore on April 8.
Author’s Take
Although DD suffered some unexpected losses in the form of Quinton de Kock and JP Duminy, they still have a great squad which has a nice mix of youngsters, both foreign and domestic and experienced stars who have been there and done that. They will be hoping to have a good year and claim their maiden IPL title.
