The inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup was a record-breaking affair! And one of the records that still stands till date is the “Fastest Half-century!”
The 2007 edition saw India’s Yuvraj Singh unlock beast mode. The stylish batsman scripted history on September 19, 2007, when he smashed England’s Stuart Broad for six sixes in an over. Singh went on to rack up a barely believable 12-ball half-century, and 17 years later, it’s fair to say that no one has come close to overhauling his feat.
Second on the list is Dutch opening batsman Stephan Dutch, who smashed a 17-ball half-century against Ireland in Sylhet in 2014. His knock helped the Netherlands overhaul the Irish total of 189/4 with ease.
Australia’s Marcus Stoinis repeated the same against Sri Lanka in Perth during the 2022 edition, as he went on a six-hitting spree (six) to help the home side chase down 157. The Hulk finished at an unbeaten 18-ball 59*.
Australia’s Glenn Maxwell and India’s KL Rahul are next on the list, thanks to their 18-ball 50s in 2014 and 2021 respectively. While Maxwell achieved the feat against Pakistan during the 2014 edition, Rahul did the same against Scotland in 2021.
Former Pakistan all-rounder Shoaib Malik also scored an 18-ball 50 against the Scots in 2021.
