With Delhi Daredevils set to play thrice in the last seven games, I see it as a good time to bring in both Sanju Samson and Rishabh Pant into my team. That they come cheap at 850K and 800K respectively only makes it easier for me to make the decision. Both of them are in form, bat in the top 3 and play two of the weakest bowling attacks in the league – Gujarat Lions and Royal Challengers Bangalore – in the remaining three games.

It also helps in making the call that both Chris Morris and Kagiso Rabada have left for national duty, only leaving you with Corey Anderson and Pat Cummins as the other capped players who are worth considering. If you can carry either of them till the last league match, it could turn out to be a decent season-differential at this stage of the tournament. Ideally, you should expect a minimum of 150 points from them.
If you go for it, make sure that you will be able to bring in all the overseas players that you would want to in the upcoming six games, without this move blocking a spot. I don’t see it as a possibility with the way my team is at the moment, so I leave both of them out. The Indian alternative to this would be Amit Mishra, but given how poor he has been, you should have more than 11 transfers to even think about bringing the leggie in.
From Gujarat Lions, I already have Suresh Raina. All he needs to do is escape the Cummins-bouncer trap that the Daredevils will be setting for him, and if he flukes his way through it like he has a number of times before, you should get an easy 50. Despite Dwayne Smith’s knock against Kings XI Punjab, which was basically powered by a poor fielding effort, I choose to leave him out.

The only downer with Dinesh Karthik is that he could sometimes be demoted in favour of Aaron Finch or Ravindra Jadeja. With his best-case scenario being No. 4, this is a risk I am not willing to take at this point. Among the uncapped picks, Basil Thampi could get you an easy couple of wickets, while Pradeep Sangwan and Shreyas Iyer look good value too.
