On Monday's face off we had Delhi Capitals visiting Kings XI Punjab in their fortress. Both the teams seemed confident as KXIP had defeated MI by a huge margin of 8 wickets. On the other side, DC had a close call to victory by winning the match in an extraordinary Super over against KKR. The last time these two teams clashed on this battlefield, KL Rahul had hit the fastest fifty of IPL.

The proceedings began with DC winning the toss and as any side would prefer, skipper Shreyas Iyer chose to bowl first. The opening team suffered their initial blow when they lost 3 quick wickets as they were 58-3 in 7.1 overs. Only then, a perfectly anchored partnership between Sarfaraz Khan and David Miller stabilized the boat and was further carried ahead by Mandeep Singh to achieve a decent total of 166-9.

The opposing team started by losing their frontier batsman Prithvi Shaw on the very first ball. There were some steady performances which seemed to ensure their victory. The score stood 144-3, It was a smooth sail till the 16th over when the team succumbed to the Kings by losing 7 wickets for just 8 runs totaling just 152-10.

#1 Over Confident approach

It would have definitely been a Delhi team's victory tonight, but as they seemed to cruise effortlessly towards the target of 167 set-up by the opposition, something else seemed to be running on their minds.

The team had successfully handled their initial blow of losing Prithvi Shaw early. The middle order batsmen looked in full control of the game. And then the became arrogant and tried hitting every ball out of the park to seal the game early.

The team which has been excellent throughout the game, started losing wickets in a very quick and successive manner. Surprisingly, this didn't seem to bother them thinking the other batsman would easily carry on from where he left. Only, it went the other way round and a string of dismissals could be seen on the ground.

#2 Improper decision to call a run by Morris

When the game was still in Delhi's favour, and the win seemed just about certain. A hasty decision by Chris Morris turned the tables, and paved way for KXIP to make a comeback. The score was 144-4 when the side lost Pant's wicket. They hadn't even recovered from this incident when, Morris made a blunder to call for a single which was completely unnecessary in that situation.

He had punched the ball away towards mid-off and made the call for a run. Ashwin, the fielder there, leaped towards the opportunity for a run out. He had three stumps to aim at from his fielding position, and he couldn't do it any better. He knocked out the stump well in time to grant Chris Morris his farewell walk towards pavilion, putting up a mark of 144-5. This left the team in a tight spot as there was no other proper batsman except Colin Ingram left to anchor the inning and guide them towards victory.

#3 Underestimating Sam Curran

This was the biggest mistake of the game. The 20-year-old left arm pacer was seen as an easy target for hitting lofted shots. In his performance against Rajasthan Royals, he proved to be very expensive, as he gave away 52 runs in his 4 over spell.

Only to their surprise, a much-upgraded version of him came on the field to bowl. He seemed to be dominant from his first delivery. Having received only one chance this IPL season, he was determined to prove himself worthy in his skipper's eyes.

He came out to bowl his first delivery in the second over of the inning and gave 9 runs, but was rested until Ashwin handed him the ball again in the 18th over. Keeping in mind, that this was his last chance in the game to secure a position, he bowled a magnificent over wherein he gave just 4 runs and took two wickets.

One of the wickets came on his last delivery of the 18th over. Seeing him in form, he was given the last over to bowl. There yet again standing tall on his captain's hopes, summed up the rest of the match with only two deliveries. He took a hat-trick! He became the youngest player ever to do so in IPL and finished the game on his terms.
