With less than a month to go for the IPL auctions, every team is looking forward to striking a balance in their respective squads.

While going for domestic players provides them with options, the overseas players, on the other hand, will play a huge role in the outcome of the tournament. When it comes to the overseas players, Australian and the West Indian players have been largely successful in the IPL.

The Aussies, in particular, have been impressive in all departments and have won championships for their teams.

For instance, David Warner’s contribution with the bat in 2016 as well as Mike Hussey’s performance in 2013 led their respective teams to the final of the tournament.

Apart from the batting, the Australian bowlers are pretty familiar with these conditions and will find success in the upcoming season.

Let us take a look at three Australian players who could be a hot pick in the 2020 auction.

#3 Mitchell Starc

One of the best pacers of this decade, Mitchell Starc is a sure-shot hot pick for this auction. Given his ability with the ball, the franchises would be willing to pay a hefty amount to buy him.

He has been associated with these T20 leagues since 2011 when he was selected for the Sydney Sixers in the BBL. He was also part of the IPL from 2014 to 2016 representing RCB and contributed to the team’s success by taking 34 wickets in 27 games.

Unfortunately, frequent injuries have stopped him from taking part in the last three seasons. Given that he is in the perfect rhythm, he is someone who beats the batsman with pace in his first spell and comes back with toe-crushing yorkers in his second spell.

To further enunciate this, his strike rate in T20Is is 16.38 which pronounces his role in the squad. Teams looking for a leading pacer should go for him without an element of doubt.

#2 Marcus Stoinis

If your team is looking for variety, you should probably plan to poach someone like Marcus Stoinis who is an incredible all-rounder. He can contribute both with the bat and plays an important role as the 5th bowler in the middle overs.

The Australian also takes blinders and saves lots of runs on the field. Stoinis has represented Kings XI Punjab from 2016 to 2018 and was part of RCB in 2019. Having played in 29 matches overall, he has scored 473 runs at a strike rate of 130 and taken 15 wickets in the same period.

Stoinis has also been part of the Big Bash League, having played for the Perth Scorchers and the Melbourne Stars. He has also been a regular on the national side which speaks volumes of his experience. The all-rounders cameo knocks in T20s have won several games for the team. He is also known for his slower ones that deceive the batsmen, and is a really good pick given that he delivers in one or the other department.

#1 Chris Lynn

The first thought that comes to mind when you hear about Chris Lynn is that huge six that he hit off Shaun Tait in the Big Bash League. One of the cleanest strikers of the ball in the shortest format, Lynn was released by KKR ahead of the 2020 auction.

He has been a part of the franchise since 2014 and has scored close to 1300 runs in 40 matches at a strike rate greater than 140.

Lynn has time and again proven his effectiveness at the top of the order. Besides the IPL and the BBL, he has taken part in Caribbean Premier League and the T10 league where he was equally successful.

He is familiar with Indian conditions and has the ability to go big from the get-go, and should be considered as one of the primary options for the opening slot.

Lynn is also an exceptional fielder which adds a lot of value to the team. Given his abilities, he is a hot favourite in this auction.
